Northrop Grumman Mission Systems (NGMS) is looking for a Principal Production Planning & Scheduler within our Advanced Technologies Laboratory (ATL), based out of Linthicum, MD. The position enables work within the ATL Production Control Team to plan and develop production schedules to meet manufacturing requirements. Production Control works closely with various ATL Test & Assembly functional teams to communicate and ensure production capabilities are maintained, driving manufacturing and support teams to meet production goals and to mitigate and recover any missed objectives. As the products processed at Test & Assembly are closest to delivery to the Next Higher Assembly, Production Control is essential to the overall success of the NGMS programs and customers



  • Plans, prepares, issues, maintains and controls production schedules for various product types within ATL Test & Assembly
  • Team coordination, including (but not limited to the following):
    • With material control/procurement to ensure a controlled flow of approved materials timed to meet production requirements.
    • With manufacturing teams to ensure readiness is maintained and production starts are achieved, scheduling resources to support product schedules
  • Coordinates interdepartmental activity with quality assurance, manufacturing, purchasing, engineering, inventory control, and logistics
  • Advises Management and Product Engineering of the status of work in progress, material availability, and potential production problems to ensure that personnel, equipment, materials and services are provided as needed
  • Support ATL Test & Assembly capacity data development and processing area planning
  • Support documentation generation for finished goods and production related shipments to ensure transportation is optimally achieved
  • Serve as liaison between Operations, Engineering, Supply Chain, and Quality to ensure production has all required inputs.  This includes coordinating with Quality Assurance, Operations, Purchasing, Engineering, and Inventory Control to expedite the movement of material throughout the facility to point of use.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 6+ years of manufacturing, planning, or logistics work experience, or master’s degree and 4+ years of work experience. Note: an additional 4 years of experience may be considered in lieu of a bachelor’s degree.
  • Basic knowledge of MS Office tools, specifically Excel and Outlook with experience using Project
  • Basic understanding of MRP Systems
  • Ability to effectively communicate between various groups, including management teams
  • Ability to work on-site at ATL Test & Assembly facility
  • Experience in work planning
  • Experience creating & managing schedules

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced MS Project User
  • Experience with SAP
  • Familiarity with Confluence and JIRA
  • Production Planning experience
  • Familiarity with Product Control functions
  • Manufacturing experience within a test & assembly environment

Production Control (PC) works on-site within the ATL Test & Assembly manufacturing facility and is an integral contributor that provides solutions for complicated scheduling conflicts in order to accomplish production goals. PC works with changing (as well as sometimes undefined) variables to define and build a solid path forward that advances manufacturing through product delivery. The PC team is closely integrated with product engineering and manufacturing operations.

Salary Range: $59,100 USD - $88,700 USD
Salary Range 2: $72,700 USD - $109,100 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
