Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking a Manufacturing Operations Manager 3. for the Strategic Deterrent Systems (SDS) division Engineering and Manufacturing team.  This leadership role will be located in Roy, UT and will provide enabling support for all business areas within the SDS portfolio.  Northrop Grumman supports the Air Force’s sustainment, development, production and deployment of hardware and system modifications for Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) Ground and Airborne Launch Control Systems, Launch Facilities, and associated infrastructure.

What You’ll Get To Do: 

The selected candidate will be responsible for a department within the Manufacturing Operations organization and will report directly to the SDS Manufacturing Operations Director. You will set operating objectives and provide mentorship to Functional Home Room (FHR) Section Managers (SMs) based on Engineering & Manufacturing goals, objectives, and company policy. Provide oversight and assistance to multiple programs within the Division portfolio (Sentinel/GBSD, ICBM Sustainment and Advanced Programs); to provide the people, skills, processes & training for successful achievement of program goals.  As the Department Manager you will be responsible for managing planning, risk, project performance, addressing schedule, technical quality, and addressing technical or operational problems when necessary. Will develop and maintain talent within the organization. Have frequent contact with equivalent level managers and programs to maintain and exceed health and performance for all programs.

As the Manager of Manufacturing Operations, your team will oversee and manage all operational aspects of many manufacturing, production, and integration & test areas across the country. Your team will be responsible for the safety of the employees, delivering quality products on time and within customer cost targets, and continuous improvement. Provide leadership direction of design and process development, production, operations, engineering, test and Quality Assurance functions. Manage and present status on cost, schedule and performance for all projects within the area; assess issues and develop mitigation plans to meet productivity, quality, cost, and delivery goals

Essential functions include:

  • Excellent communication, mentoring, interpersonal skills, and the ability to collaborate with senior management, peers, and employees.

  • Provides ownership for the people, processes, tools & training that support business areas and programs in achieving their missions.

  • Accountability for recruiting, staffing, and retaining talent to deliver on the objectives.

  • Supporting proposal work, independent technical reviews, program standup and audits, and special assignments on an as needed basis.

  • Owning and leading improvements across employee engagement, hiring, development, training, attraction, and retention of top talent.

  • Mentor, develop, and train your section managers, and overall employee base.

  • Reviews and analyzes released engineering change data and coordinates changes with engineering, quality, support, manufacturing, and engineering data control activities.

  • The ideal candidate is capable of creating and managing high performing teams while providing technical, administrative and management expertise in the day-to-day activities required to successfully execute complex engineering and manufacturing programs.

This position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.  


You’ll Bring These Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and 8 years related experience, preferably with an Engineering degree.   

  • Minimum of 3 years in a formal management position

  • Must have U.S. Citizenship with the ability to obtain an interim Secret Security level clearance pre-start, with the ability to obtain a final Secret Security level clearance post-start

  • Must be able to attain and maintain Special Program Access (SAP) within a reasonable amount of time as determined by business needs. 


These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have:

  • Experience leading manufacturing/production/integration & test teams in an Engineering & Manufacturing Development program

  • A proven track record of developing and implementing strategies for change

  • Presentation skills to communicate effectively at all levels of management and to individual contributors

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills

  • Prior experience operating in a dynamic environment of increasing production schedules and high delivery rates

  • Aerospace / ICBM Industry Experience

  • Knowledge and experience with Production Estimating functions

  • Experience working with Systems Applications and Products (SAP)

  • Knowledge of Manufacturing Management Plan requirements and transitioning to production 

  • Knowledge and experience working on MILCON construction efforts 

  • Prior experience interfacing with prime contractor site leads and USAF leadership personnel

  • Demonstrated success leading teams/and or organizations to achieve a common goal

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to effectively work within a team environment

  • Active DoD Secret clearance and applicable SAP accesses

Salary Range: $122,000 USD - $183,000 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
