Northrop Grumman Tactical Space Systems (TSSD) is seeking a Director Manufacturing Operations 1 to lead the Manufacturing team in support of all Manufacturing Operations, including our Special Programs. The position will be located in either Dulles VA or Gilbert AZ.

This position’s primary role will be to act as a key member of the division leadership team to help create alignment within the TSS division manufacturing strategy by building and leading the common processes in addition to providing the leadership and technical expertise in the Manufacturing Disciplines across all programs. This position requires a comprehensive understanding of design manufacturability, production, and operating in open and restricted access program environments. The selected individual will demonstrate strategic planning and business execution capabilities, as well as the ability to work collaboratively. The position will be a key leadership interfacing all NG Sectors/Divisions, Internal Work Order (IWO) partners and Customers in establishing baseline program plans, validating the updates, follow-up and reporting. The selected individual must have experience leading production programs and development programs transitioning to production program encompassing all the aspects of the rate readiness planning activities. In addition, the candidate should be able to interact and influence executive level management and communicate effectively with both oral and written presentations. The candidate will need to demonstrate exceptional organizational and interpersonal skills, have the ability to multi-task and communicate effectively with varying levels of Customer, Northrop Grumman Corporation, and Suppliers, employees and leadership.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Work in partnership with the TSSD Leadership, Program Management and Integration & Test teams to define and enable execution of the Manufacturing SOW is in alignment with the customer SOW
  • Lead teams consisting of Manufacturing site leadership, Operations Project Management, Production Planning and Scheduling, Materials management with inventory in excess of $400M, Manufacturing/Industrial Engineering, Tooling, MES support, and General Manufacturing Operations work centers
  • Lead and direct manufacturing working groups charter with internal and customer stakeholders
  • Engage in Manufacturing Community of Practice (CoP) leveraging the best-in-class industry knowledge base
  • Maintain oversight of the end-to-end product scheduling, including first articles, planning, build sequence planning, rate build-up plans, and rate readiness assessments
  • Direct, lead, and manage all aspects of technical, cost and schedule performance for manufacturing content of program execution
  • Manage budgets and EAC for the organization including the Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS) support
  • Maintain open communications with all functions including Engineering, Safety and Mission Assurance, Global Supply Chain, Integration & Test, Engineering and Integrated Product Teams (IPT's)
  • Develop and execute long-range plans and strategies while providing the most effective resources by skillsets to the program
  • Outline specific objectives and processes that are focused on generating innovative solutions to complex business problems
  • Help coordinate capital needs and expenditures, real-estate utilization and future planning across the sites
  • Hire and develop diverse skilled employees, establish a mentorship and coaching culture including growing and strengthening the leadership bench
  • Additional duties and responsibilities will be assigned as needed and as it relates to the needs of the Manufacturing Operations organization

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree with minimum 10+ years' experience in a manufacturing operations environment OR a Master’s degree and 8+ years’ experience
  • Prior leadership experience leading people, projects and/or programs across diverse technical and non-technical teams
  • Prior leadership leading other people leaders
  • Proven ability to lead a high performing team with specific history of being able to create trusted relationships and an inclusive work environment that attracts, retain and inspire diverse and engaged teams
  • Must have US Citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD TS/SCI Security Clearance
  • Prior experience with Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Current or active DoD TS/SCI Security Clearance
  • Experience in all Operations areas: Global Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Ground Systems, Integration and Test, Environmental Test, Safety and Mission Assurance, Site Operations and Facilities
  • Prior experience managing large stock room environments with hazardous materials and explosives
  • Experience leading day-to-day operations on complex programs or large functional organizations, with proven collaboration and coordination skills across internal and external stakeholder organizations
  • Ability to negotiate and integrate different viewpoints
  • Able to prioritize and adjust tasks to accomplish the project result
  • Demonstrated ability to make complex critical decisions
  • Experience with risk, issue, and opportunity management
  • Expert level proficiency with oral and written communication skills

This position reports to Dulles, VA, USA, however, this position can also be worked from Gilbert, AZ, AZ, USA.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
