Missile Defense Solutions (MDS) pushes the boundaries of innovation, redefines engineering capabilities, and strives for continual improvement. Our team is chartered with providing innovative technologies to develop, design, and produce optimized product lines while providing a decisive advantage to the warfighter. MDS is looking for new members to join our rapidly growing technical team as a Principal/Sr. Principal Mathematician based out of Boulder, CO.

This position includes:

  • Performance analysis of tracking and state estimation algorithms
  • Identifying potential algorithmic optimizations and/or alternative approaches
  • Tool and prototype development using C/C++ and Python 
  • Algorithm defect tracking and resolution
  • Analysis tool development (Python)
  • Technical documentation as required

Basic Qualifications:

  • Level 3: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Math, Physics, or related discipline and 5 years of related experience; 3 years of related experience with a Masters; or 0 years of related experience with a PhD
  • Level 4: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Math, Physics, or related discipline and 9 years of related experience; 7 years of related experience with a Masters; 4 years of related experience with a PhD
  • Experience with C/C++ software language, development tools, and integrated development environments (IDEs)
  • Experience in algorithm design for scientific applications
  • SW algorithm development experience for complex, mathematically intensive systems
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to bridge between theoretical concepts and practical implementation
  • Ability to obtain and maintainU.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in tracking and prediction algorithms, simulation, and validation
  • Ground systems experience in mission processing, ground communications, and space operations
  • Experience in the numerical implementation of motion filters.
  • Experience with applying algorithms related to object tracking, sensor data fusion, state estimation, optimization, coordinate systems, orbital mechanics, or graph theory
  • Familiarity with Overhead Persistent Infrared (OPIR) and Electro-Optical Infrared (EOIR) sensors and simulations
  • Experience with PERL, STK, or logging and parsing tools
  • Linux experience
  • Strong statistical background and skills
  • Experience with model-based engineering

Salary Range: $111,600 USD - $167,400 USD
Salary Range 2: $138,300 USD - $207,500 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
