Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for an engineering technician to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. The position will be in Clearfield, UT. Our team works with experienced engineers, technicians, supporting sophisticated structural analysis, manufacturing, and testing of both composite and metallic materials of aerospace structures. We engineer the latest structures for military/commercial aircraft and launch structures, and are leaders in next-generation structure development. Responsibilities:

  • Develop, maintain, and execute test plans for products ranging from components to sub-assemblies to vehicle-level systems.
  • Operate and/or support complex test facility systems (e.g MTS and Instron machines) and help direct a team of technicians to execute test processes
  • Plans sequence of fabrication, assembly, installation, and other manufacturing operations relating to specific portion of the product for guidance of production workers.
  • Plans detail operations from digital models, blueprints, engineering orders, change notices, and other design releases.
  • Analyze and review data to ensure that hardware is operating as expected utilizing numerical data analysis tools to interpret test results
  • Write test reports that include test results and conclusions based on the data collected 
  • Directly support testing, such as material preparation and testing, testing using an Instron and other material testing equipment, metallurgical lab sample cutting, mounting, polishing and evaluation
  • Provide support to the manufacturing floor by working proactively with cross-functional teams to understand frontline problems and implement cost-saving, impactful solutions.
  • Material preparation (storage, thawing, cutting, inventory, traceability, etc.) in support of material testing
  • Track individual metrics, maintain notebook, capture lessons learned and undocumented process details
  • Work across engineering and operations to clarify requirements and drive improvements
  • Lead process improvements working with cross functional teams

Basic Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED and Bachelors Degree or 6 years of additional education or experience.
  • Ability to work on an assembly floor 
  • Ability to obtain DoD Secret Security Clearance and special program access within a reasonable period of time as determined by the needs of the business.
  • Strong expertise using the full suite of Microsoft Office Tools
  • Mechanical aptitude/ experience
  • Ability to work flexible/changing schedules and weekend

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Demonstrated ability using standard measuring equipment and power hand tools
  • Demonstrated Mechanical Ability
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize
  • Composite manufacturing experience to include layup, assembling and fabricate of composite part
  • Active DoD Secret security clearance last investigated within 5 1/2 years and the ability to obtain special program access.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints, technical specifications, and operating procedures
  • Experience with continuous improvement tools in Kaizen, Lean, Toyota Production lean principles
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams in a manufacturing environment

Salary Range: $51,300 USD - $85,500 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
