The Systems Engineering, Integration, and Test (SEIT) Department at Northrop Grumman Oceanic located in Annapolis, MD is seeking a system safety engineer. The successful candidate will work alongside a multi-disciplinary team to deliver complex mechanical, electrical, and/or optical systems for use in the subsea / maritime environment.  System Safety is a critical and mandatory discipline at that influences all phases of the product life cycle. 

In this position you will perform functions such as the following:

  • Develop and implement a Product Safety Plan
  • Develop and implement a Certification Program Plan
  • Conduct hazard analyses, identify mitigations, and Critical Safety Items/Processes (CSIs/CSPs)
  • Perform system safety audits
  • Develop requirements, make design recommendations, review designs for safe operation and compliance
  • Present to internal and external customers on safety-related topics at program milestones

Basic Qualifications:

  • Hold a bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • At least 2 years of experience; zero years of experience may be acceptable with advanced degrees
  • Experience in the application of System Safety Engineering functions
  • Strong communication/interpersonal skills and ability to work within a diverse team
  • A current DoD Top Secret Clearance and willingness to obtain an SSBI/SCI with CI polygraph.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A current DOD Top Secret/SSBI/SCI clearance and CI Polygraph
  • Demonstrated experience in any of the following:
    • Application of MIL-STD-882, or other relevant DoD/Aerospace/NASA/FAA/etc. system safety standards.
    • Navy operations and/or technologies for the maritime domain
    • Hazard analyses and safety requirement generation and verification
    • Field experience with operating and maintaining certified systems
    • Scope of Certification (SOC) activities for Deep Submergence Systems defined in NAVSEA SS800-AG-MAN-010/P-9290
    • Submarine Safety (SUBSAFE) Program, defined in NAVSEA 0924-062-0010
    • Other similar Certification Programs (e.g. DOD/FAA Airworthiness, NASA, etc.)    

Salary Range: 119800 - 179600

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
