We are looking for you to join our team as a Reliability Engineer based out of Apopka, FL. What You’ll get to Do:

Northrop Grumman Corporation, Precision Targeting and Protection, located in Apopka, FL, is looking for a highly motivated, Reliability and System Safety Engineer for laser and EO/IR systems.  This position requires an individual with a positive attitude, excellent design and communication skills, demonstrated leadership, entrepreneurial mindset, and the ability to work well in a team environment.

The Reliability Engineer we are seeking will be an individual who thrives in a diverse work environment, has outstanding communication skills and possesses a strong sense of engagement and continuous process improvement. Occasional travel is required to support technical reviews, meetings, and working groups. A fundamental knowledge of Reliability Engineering principles and System Safety Program conduct in accordance with MIL-HDBK-217 and MIL-STD-882 is preferred.  Fundamental principles of reliability engineering including the capability to perform: Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Reliability Predictions, Built In Test (BIT) Analysis, Failure Modes Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA), Safety Analysis Report (SAR) and fundamental knowledge of statistics are preferred. 

Primary tasks will include supporting development and qualification of EO/IR systems by independently analyzing and recommending safety criteria in system design, equipment and procedures to control or eliminate hazards. Will perform hazard analyses for systems and sub-systems, software system safety assessments, and hazardous material management planning and execution. Develops safety documents as required to support customer and test/operational range requirements.


Basic Qualifications for a Principal Reliability Engineer are:

  • Bachelor's Degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) and 5 years of experience, or Master’s Degree with 3 years of experience, or Ph.D and 0 years of experience
  • Knowledge of engineering drawings, System Safety Engineering, and Reliability engineering
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office applications (example, Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be able to obtain a DoD Secret Clearance 

Basic Qualifications for a Sr. Principal Reliability Engineer are:

  • Bachelor's Degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) and 9 years of experience, or Master’s Degree with 7 years of experience, or Ph.D and 4 years of experience
  • Knowledge of engineering drawings, System Safety Engineering, and Reliability engineering
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office applications (example, Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be able to obtain a DoD Secret Clearance 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Technical ability to develop safety analytical skills necessary to assess systems/subsystems, identify safety hazards and recommend safety requirements to system design and operations to mitigate safety risks
  • Ability to lead Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) efforts and Failure Review Boards (FRBs)
  • Ability to develop safety documents as required in support of customer requirements
  • Capable of understanding incident investigations and root cause and corrective actions
  • Develop reliability predictions using Relex, PTC Windchill and/or approved prediction methodologies for mechanical, electrical and optical designs
  • Perform FMECA, FTA, BIT analysis, implementation, and validation
  • Current DoD Secret Clearance

Salary Range: 79400 - 119200
Salary Range 2: 98500 - 147700

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
