Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is seeking candidates for the position of Manager Systems Engineering 1 or Manager Systems Engineering 2.  The selected candidate for this position will report to the Northrop Grumman Precision Targeting and Protection facility in Apopka, FL. 

What You'll Get To Do:

This is a dual-role technical manager position.  Management duties will require tasking and coordination of approximately 8-15 engineers, and process and resource coordination with functional homeroom management. The position will also have 75% of his/her time allocated to technical responsibilities. This candidate will demonstrate a broad skill set that is balanced between interpersonal, leadership, and technical capabilities. He/she must be a self-starter, able to efficiently operate in a team environment, and collaborate across the sector business areas as required to accomplish the team goals. The candidate will work closely with other managers, and engineering disciplines.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Support/lead project execution over the whole product lifecycle, with foremost emphasis on meeting or exceeding customer and stakeholder requirements  
  • Revises and manages both original and revised specification/interface definition document and expedites documents through signature approval process.
  • Identify risks, suggest mitigations, track defects, develop resolutions, and track and report status
  • Supports trade studies, system sensitivity studies, design optimization studies, system performance assessments, system design assessments, mission analysis and timelines and concept of operations development.
  • Supports system design, data analyses, interface verification, testing, failure/anomaly resolution and mission operations.
  • Supports the testing and/or evaluation/validation of one or more components of a system or subsystem analytical model or actual system implementation.
  • Provide technical contributions on assigned programs, including subject matter expert reviews for major milestone events (SRR, PDR, CDR, TRR, etc.).
  • Support MBSE, Product Line Architecture (PLA), and Agile implementation that provide a competitive advantage for our customers.
  • Facilitate and maintain good working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Oversight of cost, schedule, and technical quality for SEIT execution on supported programs
  • Create and support department policies, procedures, and budgets
  • Provide flow-down and direction from upper management and the organization
  • Support to hiring, staffing and workload forecasting including identification and training of skills required to execute on programs
  • Provide employee mentoring, career development, and training opportunities
  • Management and execution of employee performance review processes
  • Creating an inclusive and engaging environment that promotes employee retention

Basic Qualifications for Manager Systems Engineering 1 :

  • Bachelor’s Degree in STEM, or related technical field and a minimum of 5 years of relevant engineering experience (3 years with a MS degree)
  • Demonstrated leadership experience
  • Prior experience in a lead role in a technical engineering capacity
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment
  • Experience with system integration
  • High proficiency in technical problem solving
  • Proven communication and presentation skills.
  • U.S. Citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a minimum of a Department of Defense (DoD) Secret Security clearance

Basic Qualifications for Manager Systems Engineering 2 :

  • Bachelor’s Degree in STEM, or related technical field and a minimum of 9 years of relevant engineering experience (7 years with a MS degree)
  • Demonstrated leadership experience
  • Prior experience in a lead role in a technical engineering capacity
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment
  • Experience with system integration
  • High proficiency in technical problem solving
  • Proven communication and presentation skills.
  • U.S. Citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a minimum of a Department of Defense (DoD) Secret Security clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior functional management experience (executing performance appraisals, staffing allocations, systems process leadership, and career goals development)
  • Master's degree in a relevant technical or management specialty
  • Familiarity with model-based engineering
  • Experience with creation of system specifications, requirements traceability and verification
  • Proven demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Active Department of Defense (DoD) Secret Security clearance


Salary Range: $103,300 USD - $154,900 USD
Salary Range 2: $123,900 USD - $185,900 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
