Northrop Grumman Australia is now looking for an experienced Principal Engineer – Hypersonics to support our unique Launch Services Provider Program supporting the Defence Science & Technology Group (DSTG) in a Research & Development environment focused on Hypersonic systems. As a proven and trusted provider of air and missile defence solutions with decades of experience, Northrop Grumman is uniquely positioned to support the Department of Defence. 

Reporting to the Program Manager the Principal Engineer will be working closely with local and US representatives to solicit and extract industry-leading technical advice and expertise from our US colleagues to apply to Australia’s sovereign capabilities.

The successful candidate will be meticulous and methodical about their quality of work and will have a demonstrated eye for detail.

This position is based at our office in Fortitude Valley, QLD, however, we are open to other locations for the right candidate.

Day to day responsibilities of the role include:

  • Define and manage requirements for wind weighting equipment, systems and services;

  • Manage wind weighting equipment setup, testing and interfaces;

  • Define and manage launch risk analysis hardware and software acquisition, setup, commissioning, and acceptance;

  • Manage and perform launch risk hazard analysis simulation and reporting activities and advice;

  • Define and manage launch related verification and validation activities;

  • Perform sovereign launch systems feasibility surveys and studies;

  • Manage Payload Module engineering design and project management aspects

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Formal engineering qualifications (Bachelor) in a related technical discipline.

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.

  • Good written and oral communication skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to use holistic, systems thinking.

  • Knowledge and working experience of Requirements Management and Test & Evaluation approaches.

  • Current Negative Vetting 1 Australian Government security clearance

Desired Experience:

  • Working experience in an ASDEFCON complex project environment.

  • Chartered Practicing Engineers Australia or other recognized bodies.

  • Knowledge and working experience with space launch system Risk Hazard Analysis methods and techniques.

  • Knowledge and working experience with space launch systems, operations and related technology.

  • Experience with the INCOSE system engineering methodology.
