Northrop Grumman Space Sector, Payload & Ground Systems, Strategic Force Programs has an exciting career opportunity for a Principal (Level 3) or Sr. Principal (Level4) Embedded Engineer Software to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Azusa, CA.

Position Overview:

The responsibilities include the development and maintenance of the Flight Software within the Payload for Overhead Persistent Infrared (OPIR) systems.  You will be responsible for design and implementation software that best meets changing customer needs for new and existing features of the OPIR system, collaborating with team members, and working in a cross-functional agile scrum teams. 

 Essential Functions:

  • Communicate openly and effectively with teammates and customer representatives.

Basic Qualifications (Principal):

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline preferred from an accredited university and 5+ years of related experience, or a Master's Degree and 3+ years of related experience.
  • Experience developing software in object-oriented programming languages such as C++
  • Experience developing software in Real-Time Operating System (RTOS) for embedded applications
  • Experience with reading and interpreting software requirement specifications to write code that meets requirement
  • Experience with Unified Modeling Language (UML) to generate use cases, sequence diagrams, class diagrams and documentation.
  • US Citizen with the ability to acquire a U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance

Basic Qualifications (Sr. Principal):

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline preferred from an accredited university and 9+ years of related experience, or a Master's Degree and 7+ years of related experience.
  • Experience developing software in object-oriented programming languages such as C++
  • Experience developing software in Real-Time Operating System (RTOS) for embedded applications
  • Experience with reading and interpreting software requirement specifications to write code that meets requirement
  • Experience with Unified Modeling Language (UML) to generate use cases, sequence diagrams, class diagrams and documentation.
  • US Citizen with the ability to acquire a U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in a STEM discipline preferred from an accredited university and 5+ years of related experience.
  • Experience developing software in object-oriented programming languages such as Java
  • Experience developing software in scripting languages such as Python or Ruby
  • Experience with VxWorks or Linux operating systems.
  • Experience with protocols such as 1553 and Spacewire.
  • Experience interfacing software to FPGAs.
  • Experience reading and interpreting interface documentation such as ICDs
  • Experience designing software using tools such as Cameo or Rhapsody
  • Experience with unit testing tools, such as googletest
  • Experience running and reviewing static code analysis tool results
  • Familiarity with Agile software development practices.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with technical teams and government customer personnel.
  • Familiarity with version control software and Atlassian tools. i.e. Git, Bitbucket, Jira and Confluence.
  • Experience analyzing complex problems and developing solutions based on limited direction and definition.
  • Ability to prioritize and adjust tasks to accomplish project goals.
  • A current active in-scope U.S. Government DoD Top Secret security clearance.

Salary Range: $101,400 USD - $152,200 USD
Salary Range 2: $125,800 USD - $188,600 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
