Northrop Grumman in Azusa specializes in Overhead Persistent Infrared (OPIR) space programs that delivers timely, reliable, and accurate missile warning and infrared surveillance information to key decision makers. The programs enhance global missile launch detection capability, support the nation's missile defense system, expand the country’s technical intelligence gathering capacity and bolster situational awareness for warfighters on the battlefield.

Northrop Grumman’s Space Systems, Payload and Ground Systems Division, Strategic Force Programs in Azusa CA is seeking a qualified and dynamic engineer (Level 3 or 4) to join our team. Key responsibility involves leading image and signal processing efforts for dim target detection and tracking. Experience involving or related to image processing, mathematical modeling, and statistical analysis is preferred. Strong programming skills, specifically in Python, C++, and MATLAB, are desired. Candidate will be working on a multi-disciplinary team in which dim target detection efforts will be utilized through end-to-end hardware demonstrations. Results will be presented to customers through reports and presentations.

This role will report on-site daily. We can accommodate partial telework that is based upon business/program need.

Basic Qualifications: (Level 3)

  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM field with 5 or more years of relevant work experience, OR a Master’s degree in STEM field with 3 or more years of relevant work experience OR PhD
  • Professional or coursework experience in the areas of applied math, engineering, and physics
  • Strong analytical and programming skills (Python, C++, and MATLAB preferred)
  • Knowledge or experience with image and signal processing
  • Moderate written, oral and presentation communication skills
  • Ability to obtain & maintain a DoD security clearance (US Citizenship Required)

  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM field with 9 or more years of relevant work experience, OR a Master’s degree in STEM field with 7 or more years of relevant work experience OR PhD
  • Professional or coursework experience in the areas of applied math, engineering, and physics
  • Strong analytical and programming skills (Python, C++, and MATLAB preferred)
  • Knowledge or experience with image and signal processing
  • Moderate written, oral and presentation communication skills
  • Ability to obtain & maintain a DoD security clearance (US Citizenship Required)


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional Experience with image and signal processing and dim target detection
  • Proficient knowledge of Python and C++
  • Experience in mathematical modeling and data analysis
  • Familiarity with small satellites and Space Domain Awareness/ Space Situational Awareness
  • Familiarity with Military Space Systems
  • Active Secret Clearance


Salary Range: $101,400 USD - $152,200 USD
Salary Range 2: $125,800 USD - $188,600 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
