The Payload and Ground Systems (PGS) division of Northrop Grumman's Space Systems sector seeks team members who have bold new ideas, want to solve interesting, complex problems which protect our nation, and have a lot of fun along the way. We are a trusted mission payload and ground system provider with extensive experience providing end-to-end mission solutions from concept through operations and support. The team you will support is located in Azusa, CA. This role will report on-site daily, and we can accommodate partial telework. This is fully dependent upon business/program need.

What you’ll get to do?

As a Sr. Principal (Level 4) Systems Engineer, you will support a team of engineers to perform requirements definition, development, decomposition and tracing, system integration, verification, and validation and supportability and effective analyses for total satellite systems.  Candidate is expected to have exceptional critical thinking skills capable of working with system architecture teams and subject matter experts within systems, hardware, and software engineering.  Candidate will also perform analysis at all levels of total system product to include: concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal; and ensure the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints.

System engineering assignments include generation of System Requirements Documents, maintenance of Interface Control Documents, preparation of test plans, procedures and reports, failure/performance analysis, risk management, and support of peer reviews of design and test documentation.  Candidate will evaluate changes to system and sub-system specifications and assess impact of proposed changes.

In this role, you will be interacting with the customer and NGC leadership to define and maintain the technical baseline. Ultimately, it is the Systems Engineer responsibility to drive the program through maturity and milestones to achieve the mission, ensuring everything is synchronized. You will be a jack of all trades and a master of a few.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM field & 9 years of related technical engineering experience, OR a Master's Degree in a STEM field & 7 years of related technical engineering experience
  • Current & active DoD secret security clearance or higher
  • Working knowledge of systems engineering principles and processes
  • Demonstrated experience quickly learning new concepts and approaches
  • Experience working across functional teams in both hardware and software engineering
  • Excellent technical writing and team building skills
  • Effectively communicate and present to project and program management, other technical managers and customers
  • Proficiency with tools within MS Windows

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Verification and Validation and support sell-off with Customer
  • Experience using the DOORS, MATLAB
  • Familiarity with Model-Based Systems Engineering languages (SysML/UML) and concepts
  • Familiarity with system design and analysis tools (Phoenix Model Center, System Took Kit)
  • Experience with Atlassian suite (JIRA, Confluence, Bitbucket)
  • Experience with Agile development
  • TS/SCI clearance

Salary Range: $125,800 USD - $188,600 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
