Northrop Grumman is seeking an Operating Unit Business Manager 3 to lead all Business activities associated with Special Mission Aircraft Operating Unit.  This high-performing Operating Unit consists of a diverse set of DoD, commercial, and other customer contracts, with all contract types covering every phase of the acquisition lifecycle. This position is located in the greater Baltimore MD area, Huntsville AL, or potentially remote, and have teams directly reporting to them in Texas, Alabama, Maryland, and potentially other states.

This position reports to the Strike & Special Mission Aircraft Business Unit Business Management Director and partners with the Operating Unit Director to establish strategy, prioritize internal and external requirements, and achieve financial goals while ensuring the integrity of business processes. 

Roles and Responsibilities include:

  • Leads a team of geographically dispersed Managers and Program Control Analysts in executing a broad scope of business management activities to support program execution and compliance
  • Provide business oversight, interface with applicable customers and auditors (internal and external) and assist with contract negotiations as needed to ensure sound business deals within authorized parameters are achieved.
  • Lead the EAC process to include earned value analysis, hands-on EAC updates, and revisions
  • Manage the monthly financial forecasting process to include analysis and recommendations on awards, sales, operating margin, and cash
  • Interface with diverse functional areas to ensure risks are understood and financial performance is achieved. 
  • The successful candidate must possess an advanced understanding of Cost Accounting Standards (CAS); Federal Cost Principles including direct versus indirect, allowable vs. unallowable; Forward Pricing Rate proposals (FPRPs) development, negotiation and execution; understanding of Earned Value Management (EVM), Financial Planning to include Annual Operating Plan development, budgeting and forecasting to include Capital expenditures, inventory and charitable contributions. 
  • Individual should be proficient at developing and motivating a productive staff in a team environment with excellent interpersonal, planning, presentation and organizational skills with focused emphasis on continuous process improvement

Job Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:

  • Must have 14 years of applicable experience. Will consider: Bachelor's degree in Accounting/Finance/Mathematics with a minimum of 10 years applicable experience, or Master’s degree’ and 8 years relevant years’ experience (or four additional years of relevant professional experience in lieu of degree) in finance, accounting or program control.
  • Understanding of DoD contracts, government Cost Accounting Standards, Commercial contracts, and the FAR.
  • Knowledge of EVMS as applied to major government contracts
  • Candidate should be proficient in Microsoft Office suite, SAP and BW
  • Proven professional and managerial skills
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate in a team environment
  • Able to prioritize and adjust tasks to accomplish the program result
  • Able to prepare and analyze data and figures
  • Ability to comprehend and analyze complex problems and develop solution
  • Prior experience with program budgeting and forecasting, as well as Annual Operating Plan development
  • Able to lead a team in numerous geographical locations


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with performing Earned Value, reviewing Earned Value performance, bottoms up EAC, risks/opportunity/pressure analysis
  • Intermediate, to advanced-level of understanding of the following systems or software is beneficial: COBRA (or similar project management software), wInsight, SAP, Business Warehouse (BW), Microsoft Excel, and Office Analysis
  • Ability to develop and present material outside the immediate work function - Strong verbal and written communications skills
  • Excellent organizational and prioritization skills
  • Comfortable networking and interfacing with employees of other organizations.
  • Top Secret clearance or ability to Top Secret Clearance.
  • Full working knowledge of Financial Planning and Reporting, to include leading the development of monthly forecasts, Annual Operating Plans, and Long-Range Strategic Plans
  • Working knowledge of Government financial CDRL’s


Salary Range: $128,400 USD - $202,000 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
