Northrop Grumman Mission Systems (NGMS) is seeking Principal Embedded Software Engineers and Senior Principal Embedded Software Engineers with the desire to learn new technologies to join our innovative Software Technologies Organization to help develop, enhance and maintain software on cutting edge products and systems. Candidates will work on software systems for mission systems in all phases of the software development lifecycle, primarily in C/C++. 

This position is located in Linthicum/Baltimore, MD.

Summary of Role:

NGMS is seeking Principal and Senior Principal Embedded Software Engineers with experience in state estimation filter techniques, including but not limited to Kalman Filters, for use in processing and filtering data collected by sensor systems and the desire to learn new technologies to join our innovative Software Technologies Organization to help develop, enhance, and maintain software on cutting edge products and systems. You will work on software systems for mission systems in all phases of the software development lifecycle, primarily in C/C++, on an advanced airborne radar.  Any experience with sensor systems and programming sensor system data collection techniques is a plus.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • You will be implementing detailed math algorithms from models to process signal information as well as interface with systems engineering to develop flow down software requirements and technical specifications

  • Identifying risks, suggesting mitigation, tracking defects, developing resolutions, and reporting status

  • Developing and executing unit tests and build verification test plans, and track and report test status

  • Conducting reviews of software related products, software designs, and additional technical documents

  • Participating in Integrated Product Teams (IPT), design reviews, and other reviews, as required

  • Participating in the technical peer reviews to ensure system/software requirements are being met from an end-to-end system point of view

Basic Qualifications for the Principal Level:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or other STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience. (3 years for MS degree, 0 years for PhD)

  • Proficient working in C/C++ and MATLAB

  • Proficiency in working with real time embedded software

  • Experience with full software lifecycle: specification, design, implementation, integration, debug and maintenance is required

  • Prior experience with signal processing and math function implementation is required

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a US DoD Security Clearance at the Secret Level prior to starting employment

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or other STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline

  • 9+ years of software engineering experience (7 years for MS degree, 4 years for PhD)

  • Proficient working in C/C++ and MATLAB

  • Proficiency in working with real time embedded software

  • Experience with full software lifecycle: specification, design, implementation, integration, debug and maintenance is required

  • Prior experience with signal processing and math function implementation is required

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a US DoD Security Clearance at the Secret Level prior to starting employment

Preferred Qualifications for both Principal and Senior Principal Levels:

    • Experience in real-time embedded software development knowledge of Radar, Electronic Warfare, or Space technologies

    • Experience in algorithmic application development and optimization

    • Experience with VxWorks and/or Linux Operating Systems

    • Experience with Visual Studio

    • Experience with Matlab

    • Experience with Coverity and/or KlocWork tools

    • Experience in Open Architecture Solutions

    • Experience with the Atlassian tool set, kubernetes, Model Based Engineering, and DevSecOps best practices


    Salary Range: $96,600 USD - $144,900 USD
    Salary Range 2: $119,784 USD - $179,676 USD

    Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
