The Northrop Grumman Space Systems Sector in Baltimore, MD has an immediate opening in the Remote Sensing Programs (RSP) Business Unit in the Payload and Ground Systems Division (PGSD) for a Director 1, Operations Programs Engineering position. This position will report directly to the Business Unit Vice President.

The individual will be responsible for operating in a team environment supporting Operating Units (OU) within the Remote Sensing Programs Business Unit (BU) that have operations content at the BWI and Rolling Meadows sites.  The individual will work with leadership, program managers, customers, and peer organizations to:

  • Lead our manufacturing teams to improve operational efficiency, implement optimal solutions and define end-to-end manufacturing, integration & test strategies and facilities.
  • Manage risk assessments and mitigation with a strong focus on compliance, and ensuring that performance standards are met across the BU
  • Identify focus areas for improvement/streamlining, development, and execution of operational initiatives, monitoring of operational goals and leadership objectives, and elimination of non-value-added activities at all levels in the organization.
  • Ensure all projects are delivered on time, to budget and to the required quality standard. This includes detailed project planning and control, managing project scope and change control, and escalating issues where necessary.
  • Collaborate across divisions and sectors either leveraging lessons learned or enabling enterprise initiatives and thrusts through best practices, products, technologies, or strategies

The individual must be knowledgeable of the business acquisition process, restricted and DoD customers, program life cycle, manufacturing capabilities, scheduling techniques, continuous improvement strategies, manufacturing readiness assessments, compliance requirements and financial practices to execute cost and schedule objectives and implement strategic initiatives.

The Director must possess strong leadership abilities, excellent communications skills, and effective problem-solving capabilities. The individual will be responsible for recruiting and mentoring future leaders, training and skill development initiatives and promoting engagement and inclusion activities. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to influence up and down the chain of command is required, as is a proven track record of innovation, problem solving and career development.  The Director will represent Operations at all required levels within these BUs to achieve Program and Manufacturing objectives to support the Annual Operating Plan. The Director will align the business area and manufacturing strategies, execution roadmaps and investment opportunities to drive the BU’s Long Range Strategic Plan.
 

  • Primary Manufacturing Operations interface with the Program Office, Business Management, Engineering, Supply Chain Management and Mission Assurance on all aspects of manufacturing programs
  • Collaborate with multiple organizations (programs, business management, engineering, security, mission assurance, supply chain, business development, strategy, etc) to define strategies that enhance operational effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Manage risk assessments and mitigation with a strong focus on compliance, and ensuring that performance standards are met across the BU
  • Identify focus areas for improvement/streamlining, development, and execution of operational initiatives, monitoring of operational goals and leadership objectives, and elimination of non-value-added activities at all levels in the organization.
  • Overall responsibility for managing proposals, production planning and execution of manufacturing programs, while monitoring and addressing all cost, schedule, performance, and quality issues
  • Provides oversight and accountability for all OPM related activities to ensure compliance with company objectives and obligations
  • Manages all financial and budgetary aspects of their organization
  • Ensures the department is adequately staffed to meet business demands
  • Responsible for employee development, performance management and employee engagement activities
  • Coordinate, track and execute BU capital projects from planning through project close out.  Maintain annual and 5-year plans.
  • Establish & maintain BU business rhythm.  Improve operational systems, processes and policies in support of the BU mission - includes management reporting, information flow and management, business development process and organizational planning
  • Work in close partnership with all functional areas to achieve BU goals
  • Business Resumption Plan (BRP) coordination & support
  • Work in compliance with company policies and procedures

To be successful in this role, the candidate must be a self-starter, have excellent written and oral communication skills, be highly collaborative, team oriented, have strong people leadership skills, and be able to effectively multi-task competing priorities and schedules across the BU.  The individual must have strong attention to detail and the ability to function independently, meet deadlines and achieve commitments.  The ability to quickly respond to a variety of demands is essential. 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in a manufacturing, engineering, operations or program environment or non-degree with 14 years of experience
  • 5+ years of direct people leadership experience
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI clearance; US citizenship is required.
  • Working knowledge of SAP and Material Requirements Planning (MRP) systems
  • Experience developing proposals and managing program execution with a demonstrated ability to create, track and meet schedules
  • Experience with the execution and cost management of programs
  • Working knowledge of financial management including projects, process control and budgets

Preferred Qualifications:

  • TS/SCI security clearance
  • Master's degree in STEM related discipline or MBA
  • A career history that demonstrates of progressive leadership experience in manufacturing/production, operations, program management, or related area
  • A background in and understanding of manufacturing and or engineering processes, technologies, and programs 
  • Experience in proposals, business development, acquisitions, and associated customer interactions 
  • Product transition from development to production methodology and implementation
  • Knowledge & experience in Manufacturing and Supply Chain as well as a strong customer domain knowledge
  • Experience supporting cross-sector initiatives and/or programs
  • Work that crosses typical organizational, site, sector boundaries and that consolidates, transfers manufacturing operations
  • Continuous improvement and problem-solving tools and techniques


Salary Range: $156,300 USD - $234,500 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
