Northrop Grumman’s Airborne Multifunction Systems (AMS) Systems Engineering, Integration and Test (SEIT) organization is seeking a candidate to direct a team of engineers within a section of the Sensor Solutions Systems Engineering (S3E) homeroom organization.

The successful candidate will join our high performing, Systems Engineering team in developing radar, EW, CSD (Cross Sensor Domain), and EO/IR systems for some of the most advanced systems in the U.S. arsenal. These include radars for air dominance platforms (such as the F-22, F-35 Joint Strike Fighter, F-16), bomber and strike programs (such as B-1B), airborne / maritime / ground-based surveillance missions (E-3 AWACS, E-7 MESA, TPS-80 G/ATOR and UAV systems such as Global Hawk), as well as restricted programs and missions.

The selected candidate will clearly demonstrate strong management skills and will have a track record as a motivated leader, an effective communicator, and problem solver who is able to develop and maintain good working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. The candidate will demonstrate a commitment to ethics and integrity, and the capability to innovate while challenging traditional ways of doing business. Demonstrated abilities to build diverse and inclusive teams with high levels of engagement, including mentoring and coaching, are a must. They will have an ability
to operate in a team environment and collaborate across the sector business areas as required to accomplish team and department goals.

This is a dual-role manager position, involving balancing both the overall Functional oversight and management of a Systems Engineering group of 5-10 engineers and/or interns as well as performance of productive work on a program or several programs. The candidate will spend ~10-25% of their time on support of the organization and ~90-75% of their time on technical program work. The split of time may need to increase during surge recruiting and rotation months.  The management side involves organizational administrative activities and helping their employees’ performance and career development through guidance and training. The direct program work may include systems engineering technical work, conducting design reviews, IPT leadership, consulting, proposal support, or any other appropriate technical function.

Specific management responsibilities include:

  • Recruiting and retention

  • Support early career employee assignment placement and integration

  • Leading intern hiring

  • Develop metrics and monitoring for successful placement and integration of employees

  • Training

  • Career guidance and goal-setting

  • Performance evaluations

  • Compensation evaluations and coordination

  • Policy dissemination

  • Employee inclusion and engagement

  • Staffing, workload planning/forecasting and time charge approvals

  • Engineering process development and maintenance

  • Development and implementation of departmental vision and strategies

  • Employee inclusion and engagement

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, or other closely related technical degree, plus 5 years of experience (or Master of Science degree plus 3 years of experience) in systems or electrical engineering, and/or engineering program/project management

  • Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate diverse and inclusive teams in a leadership role

  • Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills

  • Solid understanding of the Systems Engineering process

  • Active Department of Defense (DOD) Secret clearance

  • US Citizenship is required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience with the development of advanced sensor systems, such as EOIR payloads, Fighter and/or Surveillance radar systems, Electronic Warfare (EW), or Cross Sensor Domain capabilities (tracking, BIT/Cal, GNC, LOS)

  • Advanced degree in engineering

  • Active DOD Top Secret clearance, SAP, and/or SCI access

  • Experience leading teams in a functional, programmatic or technical capacity

  • Experience with mid-career technical development programs (e.g. FTL, SEA)

This positions standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.

Salary Range: $114,200 USD - $171,200 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
