Northrop Grumman has an opening for a NG Fellow to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in one of our larger Mission Systems locations (San Diego, CA, Baltimore, MD, Rolling Meadows, IL) with flexibility to consider other sites.  As an NG Fellow, you will serve as the primary sector domain expert for this significant business/technical area.  You will conduct complex scientific or technical analyses that require the synthesis of diverse disciplines and alternatives; solutions may be developed under conditions of uncertainty or where little precedent exists. 

As the primary domain expert for this technical area, you will set and drive strategy for a broad set of technical initiatives and will be empowered to make decisions and be held accountable for results that significantly impact the annual operating plan (AOP) and long-range strategic plan (LRSP) outcomes and other major initiatives. You will also act as a thought leader representing the business within the customer community and within industry groups.   

The NG Fellow will be expected to provide scientific, technical, intellectual leadership, as well as analytical support contributing to the advancement of set goals, particularly as they apply to digital transformation, process improvements, lean-agile approach, and workforce development and pipeline. The Fellow will also serve as a liaison with internal and external stakeholders. The fellow is recognized as the expert in the domain and advocates and promotes new business and technologies in concert with the long-range strategic plan.

Essential Functions:

  • Work with cross functional stakeholders to resolve hard technical problems
  • Work with the senior team to assess discipline capabilities across Engineering and Science organization
  • Lead the talent and technology development strategies, in conjunction with mentor and/training to grow the talent pool within the discipline
  • Develop standard work and system tools
  • Support proposals, early development phases, and perform alternative/trade studies
  • Aide as required day-to-day program execution of complex tasks
  • Recommends technological applications to current programs.
  • Provides advisory and consulting services across the Sector.
  • Provides mentoring or training to grow the talent pool within their discipline.
  • Maintains strong relationships with internal and external customers.
  • Creates tools or processes to make knowledge available within their discipline.
  • Track record of attracting/capturing new business along with proposal support experience

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors of Science Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM) discipline plus 20 years of combined electrical, computer engineering/science, systems, mechanical, manufacturing or industrial or related engineering experience OR Masters of Science Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) discipline plus 18 years of combined  engineering experience (as listed above) OR PhD in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM) discipline plus 15 years of combined engineering experience (as listed above).
  • Proven leadership experience with architecture development, enterprise systems engineering and mission engineering or, operations.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • DOD Secret clearance required to start
  • Ability to obtain Special Access Program and higher level clearances as required by business needs

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated new engineering/scientific concepts or technologies within their discipline.
  • Influence on long-range planning concerning new or projected areas of technology, research, or advancements.
  • Recently published or presented technical papers within technical domain of expertise
  • Network of outside technical contacts within industry, professional societies, or academia
  • Experience collaborating across organizational boundaries to understand best practices or to share learnings from local initiatives
  • Works proposals, merger and acquisition, non-advocate review, and analyses of alternatives/trade studies consistent with the LRSP.
  • Top Secret security clearance


Salary Range: $186,800 USD - $280,200 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
