Northrop Grumman Defense Systems (NGDS), Beavercreek Ohio, is seeking a Program Manager 2 to lead the Mission Planning and Decision Support (MPDS) AI Center of Excellence (CoE). Successful candidates will demonstrate a broad skill set balanced between AI focused project management, business development, and technical knowledge.  Responsible for the cost, schedule and technical performance of company programs or subsystems of major programs. Establishes design concepts, criteria and engineering efforts for product research, development, integration, and test. Develops new business while expanding the product line with existing customers.  Establishes strategies aligned with organizational objectives to drive the business development process.  Works with other managers to identify opportunities for AI based technologies to assist in growing established programs and/or capturing new business. Establishes milestones and monitors adherence to master plans and schedules, identifies program problems, and obtains solutions, such as allocation of resources or changing contractual specifications. Directs the work of employees assigned to the program from technical, manufacturing, and administrative areas.

Responsibilities for the candidate includes:

  • Provides direction to team based on general policies and management guidance
  • Makes decisions that support accomplishment of MPDS AI CoE objectives.  Assignments are received in objective oriented terms. Provides direction to subordinates based on general policies and management guidance. Work is reviewed for adequacy in meeting objectives.
  • Ensures CoE projects are completed on schedule and within budget 
  • Frequent contacts with internal and external customer representatives at various management levels concerning scheduling or specific phases of MPDS AI CoE projects
  • Conducts briefings and participates in both management and technical meetings for internal/external stakeholders
  • Accomplishes results through AI Research Team Lead and AI Engineering Team Lead who exercise significant latitude and independence in their assignments
  • Becomes involved only when required to assist in meeting schedules or to resolve technical problems

Basic Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED with a minimum 14 years relevant experience; OR 10+ years relevant experience with bachelor’s degree in management or related degree; OR 8+ years relevant experience with master’s degree
  • Experience with program leadership
  • Experience with project budgeting and scheduling, with on-time delivery
  • Experience with common project management tools (MS Project, etc.)
  • Experience with project/program risk assessments
  • Experience developing business opportunities
  • Strong interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with small to large teams and customer stakeholders
  • Ability to prioritize and adjust tasks to accomplish project results
  • Ability to comprehend and analyze complex problems and develop solutions
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an active DoD Top Secret SCI Security Clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience leading AI projects from research to operational implementation supporting multiple programs.  Ability to understand both commonality and uniqueness of each programs AI requirements
  • STEM Degree
  • Active DoD Top Secret SCI Security clearance
  • Experience working in an Agile project environment
  • Experience working in Department of Defense and/or Intelligence Community environment

Salary Range: $130,500 USD - $195,700 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
