We are seeking a self-motivated Associate Quality Engineer to join our dynamic team located in our Beltsville Manufacturing Facility. The responsibilities of the position will include visual inspection, measurement, log book inspection paperwork processing, and other documentation. Candidate will conduct in process inspection as well as inspection of finished fabricated products in support of NASA & Department of Defense projects. This is not a production environment, we are unique in the aerospace arena as we build prototype and flight hardware to our customers most demanding requirements. Develops, modifies, applies and maintains quality evaluation and control systems and protocols for processing materials into partially finished or finished materials product. Collaborates with engineering and manufacturing functions to ensure quality standards are in place. Devises and implements methods and procedures for inspecting, testing and evaluating the precision and accuracy of products and production equipment. Designs and analyzes inspection and testing processes, mechanisms and equipment; conducts quality assurance tests; and performs statistical analysis to assess the cost of and determine the responsibility for, products or materials that do not meet required standards and specifications. Audits quality systems for deficiency identification and correction. Ensures that corrective measures meet acceptable reliability standards and that documentation is compliant with requirements. May specialize in the areas of design, incoming material, production control, product evaluation and reliability, inventory control and/or research and development as they apply to product or process quality. May be certified in lean and six-sigma quality engineering methodologies. Basic Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Safety or Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Quality experience associated to printed circuit board assemblies, cables and harnesses
  • IPC and J-STD specification knowledge

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience inspecting solder, crimping, conformal coating, staking, and surface mounted devices accordance with NASA 8739 and/or IPC-J-STD-001, IPC-A-610 standards
  • Wire harness experience in accordance with NASA-STD-8739. 3 and 8739.4 and/or IPC-A-620 standards
  • Good communication skills and the ability to articulate hardware anomalies verbally & within nonconformance reporting data base
  • Experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings
  • Proficient with computers, the ability to use MS Office, shop floor management software (MES) and Costpoint.
  • Perform visual inspections of electronic assemblies using microscopes & magnifiers.
  • Experience with the control of nonconforming hardware, failure/root cause analysis, corrective and preventive action processes
  • Accurately maintain records and documents in accordance with policies and procedures
  • Ability to work overtime and weekends as needed
