Northrop Grumman Space Systems – Launch and Missile Defense Systems has an exciting career opportunity for a Sr. Principal Software Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Boulder, CO.

Position Overview:

The selected Sr. Principal Software Engineer will be responsible for researching, identifying, and implementing solutions to complex, multi-disciplinary software problems. You will be responsible for the design, development, documentation, testing, deployment, and debugging of software applications.

Essential Functions:

  • Analyze and fix bugs to enhance usability, performance, and maintainability of system
  • Implement new features that flawlessly integrate with original system
  • Provide software engineering support for multi-language (C/C++, Python, and Java) and complex software systems
  • Develop software using the Agile Methodology
  • Document bugs and enhancements using Jira
  • Coordinate with the test team to perform integration and resolve defects with improvement recommendations

The selected candidate should thrive in a fast-paced work environment with high expectations, significantly diverse assignments, collaborative/team settings across all levels.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline preferred from an accredited university and 9 years of related experience, or a Master’s degree in a STEM discipline and 7 years experience, or a PhD and 4 years of experience.
  • Proficient in C/C++ and Python
  • Knowledge of object-oriented principles
  • Experience with object-oriented design patterns and modern data structures.
  • Experience working with legacy software and modernization efforts.
  • Experience working in a Linux development environment.
  • Experience with configuration management software including Git
  • Experience working in teams to develop Software and troubleshoot to find/resolve defects
  • Ability and willingness to travel 10% to support business needs.
  • A current active in-scope U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance is required to start; with the ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret/SCI (TS/SCI) security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Math or related discipline
  • Experience with Agile Development
  • Experience with Atlassian Tool Suite
  • Experience with Java and shell scripting software languages
  • Experience with technical leadership responsibilities

Salary Range: $125,800 USD - $188,600 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
