Missile Defense Solutions (MDS) pushes the boundaries of innovation, redefines engineering capabilities, and strives for continual improvement. Our team is chartered with providing innovative technologies to develop, design, and produce optimized product lines while providing a decisive advantage to the warfighter. MDS is looking for new members to join our rapidly growing technical team as a Software or Principal Software Engineer (level 2 or 3) based in Boulder, CO.

As a Software Engineer within MDS, you will be a member of a vibrant team and a primary driver of Research and Development (R&D) solutions. Your responsibilities include working on a large-scale Re-architecture, design, and agile development team to plan, develop, test, and implement new software. Development occurs in a Linux environment, utilizing modern C++. Prior experience scaling distributed systems, scripting (python and bash), or improving CI/CD DevOps pipelines are all beneficial.

Essential Functions: 

  • Planning and executing team and individual projects, developing code, testing code, tracking metrics, analyzing system performance, and engineering software architecture

  • Coding in modern C++ (using standards from C++11 and higher)

  • Identifying modern OSS technologies to support the replacement of existing legacy C code with new C++ libraries

  • Understanding well-known design patterns to support refactoring of legacy C code into modern C++
     

This requisition may be filled at either a Software Engineer or Principal Software Engineer level
 

Qualifications for Software Engineer:

Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline preferred from an accredited university and 2 years of related experience, or a master’s degree in a STEM discipline and 0 years of related experience.

Qualifications for Principal Software Engineer:

Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline preferred from an accredited university and 5 years of related experience, or a master’s degree in a STEM discipline and 3 years of related experience, or 0 years of experience with a PhD.

Basic Qualifications

  • Experience and proficiency with C++11 or newer, including the STL.

  • Experience with, Red Hat Linux

  • Experience with configuration management software including Git

  • Applicants must be able to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Government security clearance at the DoD secret level; and a minimum of an interim secret clearance will be required to start.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Secret clearance that is or has been active within the last two years

  • Writing micro-services in event driven architectures using containers and container management, , CI/CD pipelines, and automated testing and deployment

  • Toolsets including Atlassian, and container/container management such as Docker and Kubernetes

  • Scripting experience with languages such as Python, bash, or Matlab

  • Experience with Model-Based System Engineering

  • Experience with parallel, multithreaded, or GPU programming methods

  • SW algorithm development experience for tracking and state estimation, or other complex, mathematically intensive systems

  • Familiarity with Overhead Persistent Infrared (OPIR) and Electro-Optical Infrared (EOIR) sensors and simulations


Salary Range: $82,400 USD - $123,600 USD
Salary Range 2: $101,400 USD - $152,200 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
