Northrop Grumman Space Systems is currently seeking an experienced engineer for the role of Principal/Sr. Principal Engineer Systems Lead MBSE to lead the Systems Architecture development and maintenance for the Sentinel program in our Chandler, AZ office.


The Lead MBSE Systems Engineer will be cognizant of the overall vehicle subsystems, components, the interfaces, and requirements that drive the architecture design.  The Lead will oversee a team of Systems Engineers that will develop the program architecture products in an MBSE environment and ensure all engineering disciples are collaboratively involved in the architecture development.  To succeed in this role the ideal candidate must be comfortable with ambiguity and willing to work collaboratively with the IPT, both internally and with the customer, and with the Chief Engineer to resolve architecture issues as they arise both tactfully and in a productive manor.  Candidate should have a demonstrated history of strong technical skills and demonstrated performance in developing solutions that consider cost, schedule, and technical risk as elements of the problem solution.

 
System MBSE Lead Roles:

  • The candidate should possess strong technical problem solving, written and verbal communication skills to generate and document system level launch vehicle requirements, perform vehicle performance assessments, and participate in system level verification/data review activities. 

  • Regular interface with program management, engineering staff and external customers is expected.

  • The candidate should be willing to occasionally work during odd hours (nights/weekends) and occasionally longer than normal (>40 hrs/wk) to meet deadlines. 

  • The candidate should possess a strong resolve to drive tasks to completion autonomously and possess demonstrated mentoring/training skills. 

  • Strong coordination with the Requirements Lead to ensue specification/interface definition documents are consistent with the model.

  • Creates and modifies management tracking reports for a variety of systems engineering performance parameters, resource metrics and design margins.

  • Technical Resource Budgets and Configuration Control Board participation

  • Participates in the creation of and manages changes to system or subsystem models.

  • Supports creation of system architectures(s), system physical views - system elements (blocks) and critical interfaces (internal and external).

  • Supports and program testing and/or evaluation/validation and ensures results are captured in the model.

  • Prepares and presents presentation during System Requirement Review, System Functional Review, Preliminary Design Review, Critical Design Review and System Verification Review.

  • Supports trade studies, system sensitivity studies, design optimization studies, system performance assessments, system design assessments, Operations Analysis work such as mission analysis and timelines and CONOPS development.

  • The candidate will be required to travel domestically on a periodic basis. (<25% per year).

This position may be offered at the Principal Engineer Systems Level 3 or maybe offered at the Sr. Principal Engineer Systems Level 4.

Basic Qualifications:

If offered at the Principal Engineer Systems Level 3 requires BS in Engineering with a minimum of 5 years related experience, Master’s Degree with 3 years of related experience or PhD with 0 years of experience. 

If offered at the Sr Principal Engineer Level 4 requires BS in Engineering with a minimum of 9 years related experience, master’s degree with 7 years of related experience or PhD with 4 years of experience. 

  • U.S. Citizenship is required

  • Full Secret clearance is required for this position

  • Ability to travel is required 

  • Demonstrated Systems Engineering experience

  • Strong oral and written communication skill 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • A strong experienced-based and academic foundation in Systems Engineering fundamentals

  • Experience with Northrop Grumman Space Systems LVBU Systems Engineering standards/guidelines and expectations

  • Experience with external customer interfacing (meetings, presentation, negotiation)

  • System testing and launch operations experience

  • Experience with Agile and Scrum

  • MBSE and DOORS experience is desired


Salary Range: $87,600 USD - $131,400 USD
Salary Range 2: $108,600 USD - $163,000 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
