Summary of role:

As the Embedded Software Engineer Manager 2 you are responsible for overseeing and coordinating the people, resources and processes required to deliver new software or upgrade existing products.  You are also responsible for the leadership of managing people, executing performance reviews, staffing programs, and career development of employees.   You will also be a direct technical contributor on the software development team.

As an Embedded Software Engineer Manager 2 within the Maritime Systems and Integration Organization you will have a challenging and rewarding opportunity to be a part of our Enterprise-wide digital transformation. Through the use of Model-based Engineering, DevSecOps, and Agile practices we continue to evolve how we deliver critical national defense products and capabilities for the warfighter. This position supports Radars and Sensors for ground-, ship-, and air-based platforms spread across multiple customers. 

Roles and Responsibilities:

The software manager plans, directs and coordinates all activities related to the software team:

  • Provide technical contribution and oversight of design, development, and integration of software components
  • Support the team in identifying and addressing impediments to the attainment of goals, including taking action to remove impediments where appropriate
  • Drive sustainable continuous improvement, including by collating and deriving insights from data
  • Generate proposal and estimates inputs for new work
  • Act as a Control Account Manager (CAM) using Earned Value Management System (EVMS)
  • Lead the team in applying the appropriate standards, processes, procedures, and tools using Agile development methodology
  • Guide the team in compliance with the Internal Software Development Plan (iSDP) and the Agile Development Plan (ADP)
  • Coordinate with other disciplines when needed such as Systems and Hardware
  • Candidate must have strong communication and people leadership skills

The software manager also manages a group of up to 15 direct reports:

  • Set attainable goals
  • Execute performance reviews
  • Guide the employees regarding career development
  • Support teams or individuals to improve performance and achieve goals through coaching and mentoring
  • Provide Flowdown and direction from upper management and the organization

Basic Qualifications for Embedded Software Engineer Manager 2 Level:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or other STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline with 9 years of related engineering experience; OR a Master’s degree in STEM with 7 years of related engineering experience, or a PhD in STEM with 4 years of related engineering experience
  • Experience leading a team of software engineers in software development activities, deliverables, and processes
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to interface with all levels of employees and management
  • Progressive Software Engineering/Development experience, including experience as a Software Engineering/Development Team Leader
  • Experience in Agile development practices
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a US DoD Security Clearance at the Secret Level

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in algorithmic application development and optimization
  • Experience in real-time embedded software development knowledge of Radar, Electronic Warfare, or Space technologies
  • Experience with VxWorks and/or Linux Operating Systems
  • Experience with Visual Studio
  • Experience with Matlab
  • Experience with static code analysis tools
  • Experience in Open Architecture Solutions
  • Experience with the Atlassian tool set, Model Based Engineering, and DevSecOps best practices

Salary Range: $123,900 USD - $185,900 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
