Are you a User Researcher who would like to join a leading software Engineering Team with an evolving and dynamic organisation

Due to the success of a number of strategic Gloucestershire based programmes we are growing our research capability

Working alongside our customers and partners you will take part on client meetings and interviews in order to gather information about the requirements you will become an essential conduit of user insights and visibility information for the product team.

Your output will assist in improving the products we design for end-users and drive business goals

What you`ll be doing:

  • Assisting with the recruitment of users into a well-crafted research plan with clear research-objectives
  • Authoring or co-authoring research-screeners and discussion guides
  • Working with a range of customers in order to gather information about their requirements and usability needs
  • Modelling and documenting your research into formats that can enhance the Product Teams understanding of their users, e.g. experience maps or evolved personas etc.
  • Presenting research findings, recommendations and user insights to both the Product Team and project stakeholders
  • Assist with the implementation of qualitative and quantitative surveys
  • Assisting with the analysis of your findings into a rich picture of user needs and behaviours and developing actionable findings alongside the Product Team
  • Assisting the Product Team in promoting user-centred design principles and best practices across the wider project team as well as any organisation involved
  • Take part in user-testing sessions alongside other Product Team members

What we`re looking for in you 

  • A clear understanding of common user research methods, when to use them and apply them in a manner that provides valuable user insights
  • An ability to apply a range of research techniques using both qualitative and quantitative methods to uncover a comprehensive view of product users
  • An ability to extract and identify common user-behaviours from various user sources
  • A team-player, able to work comfortably and confidentially alongside multi-discipline team members and help them to understand the user-landscape they are positioned within
  • An ability to differentiate between and balance business needs alongside user needs
  • An ability to use your own initiative to generate ideas, suggest processes and ways of working
  • A keen eye for detail and consistency across your own work

Desirable Criteria 

  • A degree in Psychology, Human-Computer Interaction and/or relevant professional experience in a User Research role 
  • An understanding of wider UX practices with particular emphasis on digital surfaces, application design or software development 
  • Experience using Agile tools such as Jira and Confluence
  • Experience working in large-scale multi-disciplinary teams
  • A knowledge of, or experience of delivering complex software solutions

  • Travel requirements: Occasional UK travel may be required to attend team/customer meetings and training activities
