We are seeking cleared or clearable, early career

Digital Signal Processing Engineers who are self-motivated, energetic individuals and have a strong background in digital signal processing applied to the RF domain and wireless digital communication systems.

The DSP Engineer will be part of a multi-disciplinary program team responsible for architecting, designing, testing and deploying next generation, specialized communication systems critical to US intelligence customers and allies.

Essential Functions:

As a DSP Engineer you will provide technical leadership in mission analysis and trade studies, algorithm design, sub-system design & development and participate in integration and testing of the overall system. Programs at Northrop Grumman – Xetron are engineering intensive, rapid development jobs for diverse SIGINT/EW applications. Main focus areas are advanced waveform development, Low Size Weight and Power (Low SWaP) processing systems, specialized space communication pay loads and persistent signal surveillance systems. We’re pushing the boundaries of what’s possible, on the ground, air and space.

Thia position can be filled at the Associate or Engineer level.

Basic Qualifications for Associate level:

  • 0 years of experience with Bachelor’s Degree in in Electrical or Computer Engineering (or related discipline)

  • MATLAB/Octave proficiency is required

  • US Citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret clearance

Basic Qualifications for Sr. Principal Engineer:

  • 2 years of experience with Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering (or related discipline); or 0 years with MS in Electrical or Computer Engineering (or related discipline)

  • MATLAB/Octave proficiency is required

  • US Citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience leading technical teams

  • Proficient with MATLAB/Octave, with a digital signal processing focus

  • Proficient in C/C++, embedded SW design in Linux/UNIX and RTOS environments

  • Experience with wireless digital communication systems, in particular modern digital modulation techniques and modem design

  • Experience with RADAR and EW signal processing algorithms

  • Experience with RF receiver development, including system link budget and sensitivity analysis, ADC and receiver noise analysis, and baseband conversion and processing

  • Digital design experience and FPGA development experience in VHDL, is a plus

  • Experience with X-Midas, GNU Radio or software-defined radios

  • Active Top Secret security clearance with SCI

This position offers the option of a 9/80 work schedule. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.


Salary Range: $68,080 USD - $102,120 USD
Salary Range 2: $82,400 USD - $123,600 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
