Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Structural Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Clearfield, UT.

You will be a part of an Integrated Product Team supporting production and new product designs that maximize the use of metallic and composite materials. We perform cradle-to-grave analysis, design, and manufacturing for state of the art commercial and military programs. We collaborate with internal engineering teams and departments to address and resolve issues and ensure the on-time delivery of structures and assemblies to our customers. Our team works with cutting edge exotic materials and novel products to innovate within our mission, working across the facility supporting large composite structures. Essential Functions:

  • Direct and lead junior engineers on structural analysis methods
  • Research, develop, design, test, document, and recommend solutions to engineering mechanical/composite components and assemblies
  • Maintain and improve part designs, equipment, and systems in support of production deliveries
  • Perform structural analysis to a wide variety of designs and materials including both composites and metals. Analysis includes but not limited to static, dynamic, fatigue and damage tolerance. Able to manipulate large scale finite element models that support internal loads development.
  • Plan, perform, and direct engineering activities to ensure design, production, and testing conform to mechanical design specifications and requirements
  • Gather and manipulate technical data, such as laboratory or material test results and engineering design changes
  • Produce engineering documentation, reports, drawings (flow charts, block diagrams, and schematics)
  • Conduct tests to assist with engineering evaluation or analysis
  • Responsible to ensure material allowable database is up to date working in collaboration with program technical leads
  • Perform finite element modeling of metallic and composite material components.

Each member of the team is tasked with identifying ways to improve efficiency in the team in the pursuit of continuous improvement. We’re looking for a fellow self-starter who enjoys assessing and understanding risk to join us.

This role can be filled at a Principal or Sr. Principal Engineer level depending on the qualifications below.

Qualifications:

Principal

  • Bachelor’s Degree in STEM field (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) and 5+ years of relevant experience, or Masters in a STEM field with 3+ years
  • Experience with composite and metallic materials including allowables
  • Experience with finite element analysis
  • Must have the ability to obtain DoD Secret clearance within 5 ½ years of last investigation.
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a special program access clearance

Senior Principal

  • Bachelor’s Degree in STEM field (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) and 9+ years of relevant experience, or Masters in STEM with 7+ years
  • Experience with composite and metallic materials including allowables
  • Experience with finite element analysis
  • Must have the ability to obtain DoD Secret clearance within 5 ½ years of last investigation.
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a special program access clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with 3D modeling software
  • Practical understanding of composite structures
  • Experience with Nastran/Patran/Femap/Afgrow/Abaqus and other finite element software’s
  • General understanding of Aerospace practices, policies, and procedures
  • Detail orientated, self-starter, ability to work both independently and in a team environment
  • Experience leading engineers in structural analysis


Salary Range: 87400 - 131200
Salary Range 2: 108400 - 162600

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
