Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Sr. Principal Structural Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Clearfield, UT. You will be a part of an Integrated Product Team supporting production and new product designs that maximize the use of metallic and composite materials. We perform cradle-to-grave analysis, design, and manufacturing for state of the art commercial and military programs. We collaborate with internal engineering teams and departments to address and resolve issues and ensure the timely delivery of structures and assemblies to our customers. Our team works with groundbreaking exotic materials and novel products to innovate within our mission, working across the facility supporting large composite structures. Responsibilities

  • Researches, develops, designs, tests, documents, and recommends solutions to engineering mechanical/composite components and assemblies
  • Performs structural analysis on a wide variety of designs and materials including both composites and metals including static, dynamic, fatigue, and damage tolerance
  • Manipulates large scale finite element models that support internal loads development
  • Plans, performs, and directs engineering activities to ensure design, production, and testing conform to mechanical design specifications and requirements
  • Conducts dynamic and random vibration analysis on small and large scale structures
  • Directs and leads junior engineers on structural analysis methods
  • Produces engineering documentation, reports, drawings (flow charts, block diagrams, and schematics) and manipulates technical data such as laboratory or material test results and engineering design changes
  • Conducts tests and records data to assist with engineering evaluation or analysis
  • Performs finite element modeling of metallic and composite material components

The environment is fast-paced, with significantly diverse assignments, and collaborative/team settings across all levels. We’re empowered to make decisions, but can draw upon corporate resources to support us when needed. Each member of the team identifies ways to improve efficiency in the team in the pursuit of continuous improvement. This role can be filled at a Principal or Sr. Principal Engineer level depending on the qualifications below.

Basic Qualifications

Principal

  • Bachelor’s Degree in STEM field (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) and 5+ years of relevant experience, or a Masters degree in a STEM discipline with 3+ years of relevant experience
  • Experience with composite materials
  • Experience with finite element analysis
  • Active DoD Secret clearance within 5 ½ years of last investigation
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a special program access clearance

Senior Principal

  • Bachelor’s Degree in STEM field (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) and 9+ years of relevant experience, or a Masters degree in a STEM discipline with 7+ years of relevant experience
  • Experience with composite materials
  • Experience with finite element analysis
  • Active DoD Secret clearance within 5 ½ years of last investigation
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a special program access clearance

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with 3D modeling software
  • Practical understanding of composite structures
  • Experience with Nastran/Patran/Femap/Afgrow/Abaqus and other finite element software
  • General understanding of Aerospace practices, policies, and procedures
  • Experience with material allowable database

Salary Range: $87,400 USD - $131,100 USD
Salary Range 2: $108,376 USD - $162,564 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
