We are currently seeking a Principal/Sr. Principal Systems Engineer for Production Affordability to work with our talented Aerospace Structures team in Clearfield, UT.

The ideal candidate will be supporting one or more of our Programs analyzing, developing, and managing affordability initiatives for our military and commercial programs. This position will require close collaboration with program leadership and across Integrated Product Teams (IPTs). This is a unique opportunity to expand technical experience and expertise across multiple engineering disciplines, acquire business acumen and learn the skills needed for effective project and program management.

In this role, the selected candidate will be expected (but not limited) to:

  • Collaborate with all levels of personnel across the organization to understand areas for improvement then apply that information to drive affordability initiatives including time certainty, risk reduction, and affordability
  • Coordinate integrated aspects of Affordability Initiative proposal development, project execution and quantifying the Returns on the Affordability Investments
  • Coordinate with Program IPTs/Project areas and functional Operations personnel to develop and execute proposal responses.
  • Drive and execute the program affordability plan and champion efforts.
  • Prepare and deliver summary performance briefings to Executive Leadership
  • Coordinate or develop and review customer and supplier Statements of Work (SOWs)
  • Develop Engineering Change Proposals
  • Develop Integrated Master Plans (IMPs)/Integrated Master Schedules (IMSs)

This position can be filled as a Principal Systems Engineer (T03) or Sr. Principal Systems Engineer (T04) level. 

Basic qualifications for each level are listed below.

Basic qualifications for a Principal Systems Engineer level (T03) are: 

  • Bachelor of Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) and a minimum of five (5) years of experience supporting a product from development into production lifecycles
  • Formal education in Business Management, for example: college degree in Finance, Business, or Management; Project Management Institute Certification; or Defense Acquisition University Program Management training
  • Experience eliciting, decomposing and documenting system requirements
  • Data processing and analysis experience using databases (e.g. Microsoft Access) and spreadsheets (e.g. Microsoft Excel)
  • Ability to obtain and maintain DoD secret security clearance and special program access within a reasonable time to perform job functions
  • Excellent communication skills with all levels of peers, management, and customers in a methodical, detailed and process-oriented fashion
  • Must have demonstrated experience in solving technical problems independently with minimal supervision

Basic qualifications for a Principal Systems Engineer level (T04) are: 

  • Bachelor of Science in STEM degree and a minimum of nine (9) years of experience supporting a product from development into production lifecycles. Note: An additional 4 years of relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree. 
  • Formal education in Business Management, for example: college degree in Finance, Business, or Management; Project Management Institute Certification; or Defense Acquisition University Program Management training
  • Experience eliciting, decomposing and documenting system requirements
  • Data processing and analysis experience using databases (e.g. Microsoft Access) and spreadsheets (e.g. Microsoft Excel)
  • Ability to obtain and maintain DoD secret security clearance and special program access within a reasonable time to perform job functions
  • Excellent communication skills with all levels of peers, management, and customers in a methodical, detailed and process-oriented fashion
  • Must have demonstrated experience in solving technical problems independently with minimal supervision

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced Degree in STEM field or Master of Business Administration
  • Current active DoD secret clearance
  • Experience authoring and maintaining databases in MS Access
  • Experience using Government affordability parametric models, such as PRICE and SEER
  • Experience coordinating and conducting program milestone reviews
  • Understanding of composite materials including their mechanical and electrical properties
  • Experience leading teams of highly talented and passionate engineers
  • Interest in advancing into a managerial position

Salary Range: $87,600 USD - $131,400 USD
Salary Range 2: $108,600 USD - $163,000 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
