Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a n Additive 3D Printing Manufacturing Lab Lead (Level 2 or 3 Engineer) to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals! This position will be located in Clearfield, UT.


Is the technical focal for multiple polymer additive 3D printing manufacturing machines and technologies and helps to coordinate lab practices, customers support, machine uptime, and performance metrics to meet a growing demand for additive manufactured components, jigs, tools, fixtures, and design related concepts for all of Aerospace Structures Business Unit (ASBU). Promotes and champions additive manufacturing throughout the business unit for unique solutions to save time, cost, and to improve safety.

Key responsibilities:

  • Leads the operations, continuous improvement activities, and maintenance of our polymer additive manufacturing equipment (Fortus 450, Objet350, Fortus 370, Fortus 900, and Fusion 3 machines)
  • Serve as the business unit technical focal for additive manufacturing within Northrop Grumman.
  • Helps to optimize additive machine operations, purchasing of equipment & materials, and provides support and technical service for ongoing projects.
  • Collaborates with engineers and technicians to address any operational workflow bottlenecks, inefficiencies, process improvement opportunities, and logistical/administrative issues.
  • Oversees lab safety and regulatory compliance including tracking of hazardous materials, and enforcing PPE policy and lab safety rules.
  • Coordinates annual laboratory permits, certifications, maintenance plans and software license renewals.
  • Establishes lab procedures, creates and manages lab-related documentation, publishes performance metrics, and maintains equipment calibration schedules.
  • Manages inventory system for supplies and additive feedstock materials
  • Coordinates delivery of additive parts to internal customers.
  • May travel to support other business unit customers and sites with AM capabilities.

This position may be filled at a Level 2 or Level 3 based upon the qualifications below.

Basic Qualifications:

Additive Manufacturing Lab Lead (Level 2)

  • Bachelors Degree in a STEM discipline and a minimum of 2 years in additive technologies; or 0 years with a Masters in a STEM discipline
  • Ability to acquire a DoD Secret Security Clearance and Special Program Access within a reasonable period of time as determined by the needs of the business, but not required to start

Additive Manufacturing Lab Lead (Level 3)

  • Bachelors Degree in a STEM discipline and a minimum of 5 years in additive technologies; or 3 years with a Masters in a STEM discipline
  • Ability to acquire a DoD Secret Security Clearance and Special Program Access within a reasonable period of time as determined by the needs of the business, but not required to start

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Current DoD Secret Security Clearance, but not required to start
  • Educational or industry experience with Additive Manufacturing software
  • Basic or intermediate skills using CAD software packages
  • Knowledge of composite materials and additive manufacturing processes
  • Familiarity with Stratsys additive machines and software, GrabCAD

Salary Range: $64,600 USD - $97,000 USD
Salary Range 2: $79,700 USD - $119,500 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
