We are looking for an Engineering Manager Level 1 to join and help lead the Nondestructive Inspection Development team in the Freeport Composite Center (FCC), Clearfield, Utah. This includes managing NDT and Test Engineers working multiple programs and will be responsible for the combined strategic (long-term) and tactical (short-term) management planning activities.

You will be a part of an Inspection Development Group responsible for:

Development of advanced NDT inspection technologies and sensors including laser ultrasound, phased array ultrasound, air coupled ultrasonic, THz and GHz, thermography, shearography, digital x-ray and computer aided data analysis

Design, fabrication, installation and testing of automated inspection systems for internal use

Integration of advanced NDT inspection technologies into automated systems and their qualification for the production

NDT Support of production programs during their whole life cycle

Responsibilities:

  • Has overall responsibility for execution by the team of engineers NDT development and support tasks for the programs during the whole life cycle of the program including:
  • Development and implementation of non-destructive inspection techniques
  • Inspections of various composite structures in support of production
  • Evaluation and interpretation of inspection results to allow rapid MRB response
  • Writing technique sheets, procedures, including SWI and EWIs, and reports
  • Designing and qualification of defect standards
  • Qualification of NDT techniques and automated inspection systems
  • Preparation of NDT cost estimates
  • Responsible for providing leadership and direction to team members, ensuring members have sufficient statement of work, mentoring and training employees, managing employee performance, coordinating with upper level management to ensure appropriate staffing actions are developed and executed, and ensuring their employees are familiar with and use required engineering processes and tools.
  • Strong focus on safe work environment and continuous improvement activities
  • Manages both the strategic and short-term tactical activities of the work area including engineering support of NDI Operations on the production floor
  • Strong interface with and support of Program Management, NDI Operation, D&A and MRB teams
  • Responsible for proactive resource management to mitigate program technical risks
  • Support a work environment characterized by employee involvement and participative management to encourage the highest level of employee commitment and cooperation
  • Manage inspection development team staffing levels to support program requirements while maintaining efficient operations
  • The ideal candidate should thrive in a fast-paced work environment with high expectations, significantly diverse assignments, collaborative/team settings across all levels.  Candidate must be comfortable both in a lab environment and on the production floor, and be able to collaborate closely with NDT technicians and engineers, test engineers and quality control engineers, program and operation managers, and customers. Travel is estimated to be less than 10% to support other sites (Iuka, MS, and Dayton, OH) during system and process qualification as required. We work a 9/80 schedule, which gives you every other Friday to pursue passions outside of the office.

Basic Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma and 6+ years of hands-on Ultrasonic inspection experience in production environment
  • Active Secret DoD clearance within 5 ½ years of last investigation.
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a special program access clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Level 3 Ultrasonic Certification per NAS410
  • ASNT Level 3 Ultrasonic Certification
  • 2+ years of supervisory, lead and management experience of Nondestructive inspection technicians and engineers
  • Experience in acting as a designated Level 3 in Ultrasonic testing for program(s)
  • Experience in Ultrasonic inspection of composite materials (hand-held and automated)
  • Experience in Ultrasonic Phased Array technology
  • Experience in operating automated ultrasonic inspection systems
  • Experience in qualification of hand-held inspection techniques and automated ultrasonic inspection systems
  • Strong working knowledge of composites manufacturing and inspection processes
  • Experience in support high-rate program with multiple NDI Operation shifts
  • Functional knowledge of instruments, systems, and software used for ultrasonic inspection of composites using manual or automated pulse echo, through transmission, pitch-catch, and phased array techniques
  • Strong communication, leadership and team building skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment, as a team leader and member

Salary Range: $93,800 USD - $140,800 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
