Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems is searching for a Mechanical Engineer/Principal Mechanical Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Clearfield, UT.

Job Description:

Candidate will be responsible for the design of mechanical systems that will be used in the manufacturing of composite structures. Candidate will need to provide detailed cost estimates for project design and implementation. Troubleshoot industrial mechanical equipment. Develop mechanical maintenance guidelines for industrial equipment. Gather requirements, design and integrate specify mechanical hardware, servo drives, instrumentation and for robotics, servo drives and instrumentation.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, build, support, and continue the development of automated manufacturing machines and systems.
  • Manage projects to technical, quality, budget and schedule requirements.
  • Learn the details of currently implemented system hardware for automated machines. 
  • Assist maintenance personnel as needed when troubleshooting equipment. 
  • Participate in development activities to improve capabilities and bring new ideas into projects.
  • Strictly follows and adheres to departmental procedures and protocols.
  • Work with vendors to ensure successful fabrication of machines and systems.
  • Maintain documentation related to machine and systems design, fabrication and proofing.
  • Provide estimates for upgrade to existing or new equipment and systems.
  • Some travel to fabrication vendors and other Northrop Grumman facilities required.
  • Oversee and direct day-to-day efforts of tradesmen during integration of system assemblies, instrumentation and software into a complete system ready for checkout. 
  • Prepare purchasing requisitions for system components as required.
  • Prepare Statement of Work (SOWs) and supporting documents for procurement of automated equipment systems
  • Develop schedules, work assignments and staffing requirements to ensure successful project completion
  • Coordinate with other engineers and craftsman assigned to the project or a task, and reviews work progress and results
  • Support final test and checkout of system, including axis tuning and device calibration
  • Prepare the final system documentation (electrical drawings), system manuals, system operating procedures, system spare parts list and preventative maintenance schedule.

This role may be filled at a Mechanical Engineer level or Principal Mechanical Engineer level based on the qualifications outlined below.

Basic Qualifications

Mechanical Engineer

  • Bachelor in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) discipline and a minimum of 2 years of related experience OR a Masters in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) discipline
  • Ability to obtain a DoD Secret Security Clearance and Special Program Access within a reasonable period of time as determined by the needs of the business
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite – Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Project
  • Knowledge of stress analysis, factors of safety, using empirical methods
  • Design experience using 3D CAD systems
  • Experience with project management including budget, schedule and technical
  • Experience with design, fabrication and installation of equipment
  • Experience with general metallic fabrication including welding, machining, and forming
  • Experience with additive manufacturing methods

Principal Mechanical Engineer

  • Bachelor in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) discipline and a minimum of 5 years of related experience OR a Masters in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) discipline and a minimum of 3 years of related experience
  • Ability to obtain a DoD Secret Security Clearance and Special Program Access within a reasonable period of time as determined by the needs of the business
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite – Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Project
  • Knowledge of stress analysis, factors of safety, using empirical methods
  • Design experience using 3D CAD systems
  • Experience with project management including budget, schedule and technical
  • Experience with design, fabrication and installation of equipment
  • Experience with general metallic fabrication including welding, machining, and forming
  • Experience with additive manufacturing methods

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with 3D CAD systems, CATIA V5 and NX
  • Experience with FEA
  • Experience with robots: End effector design, operation and programming
  • Experience sizing automation components, such as, but not limited to pneumatics, hydraulics, linear and rotary actuators and drive train components
  • Experience with Mechatronics
  • Programming experience

Salary Range: $66,600 USD - $99,800 USD
Salary Range 2: $82,000 USD - $123,000 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
