Northrop Grumman is currently seeking a Composite Manufacturing Technician 4 to work in our Clearfield, UT location. An active secret clearance is required and you must have composite assembly experience.
Role Description & Responsibilities:
As a Composite Manufacturing Technician 4 you work on the next generation composite structures. Fabricates and verifies inspection of composite hardware using a variety of methods such as material, mold and tool preparation, hand layup, autoclave and oven operations, bonding, assembly, trimming, and final finishing. Utilizes standard measuring equipment and power hand tools. Reads, interprets, and follows instructions using blueprints, technical specifications and operating procedures. Facilitates and participates in composite-sensitive product and tooling moves. Performs safe handling and proper waste disposal tasks to ensure environmental compliance. Frequently uses recognized problem solving methods to solve unique problems. Utilizes lean manufacturing principles and disciplines to enhance quality, cost and delivery. Must pass all job-specific or specialized certification and qualification programs required for core tasks or specialized assignments. Tasks may be performed in a team environment or individually based.

Basic Qualifications:
- Active DoD Secret Security Clearance last investigated within 5 1/2 years and the ability to obtain special program access
- A minimum of 6 years of experience in aerospace or manufacturing environment
- High School Diploma or equivalent GED (education will be verified)
- Composite experience and/or certification required
- Must meet all of the following criteria:
- Extensive experience drilling using pneumatic (inline, 90-degree, 45-degree, pistol) and power feed drill motors
- Drilling using set tooling as well as free handing and “snatch blocks, steamboats or Egg cups” to meet tight tolerances
- Extensive experience countersinking using cages as well as Winslow drill motors
- Riveting using cherry equipment
- Knowledge in using injection paste bonding with (93/94 93/96) for laminate-to-laminate bonds
- Knowledge on Pi bonding
- Skills in wet layup using carbon or glass
- Extensive detail in Tooling set up and tear down (importance of faying and machined surfaces)
- Skills in sealant application
- Knowledge in liquid and hard shimming using 93/94 Kapton titanium and glass
- Knowledge in touch up painting as well as fastener painting
- Extensive knowledge in hand mixing resin, paint as well as Semco kits
- Measure holes and countersinks with gauge pins, micrometer, trulok, and depth gauge
- Experience training lower-level team members
- Perform removal and installation of close tolerance fasteners
- Conduct visual checks and examine drawings, manufacturer’s data, technical orders, engineering drawings, specifications, process orders and other technical data to inspect surfaces, components and parts for defects, serviceability, and proper installation
- Remove, repair, install, and modify major and minor structures and components in accordance with applicable technical data and specifications. Apply judgment in determining the proper procedures and processes to use in making appropriate repairs in accordance with appropriate technical data
- Efficiently use precision measuring equipment including but not limited to calipers, micrometers, depth gauges, thickness gauges, drill bit gauges, go-no-go gauges, dividers, levels, combination squares, tape measures, and scales
- Proficient with common hand tools as well as power tools (orbital sander, grinder, die grinder, Dremel)
- Perform assembly, rework, repair and replacement of structural assemblies, i.e., ribs, brackets, clips, fairings, machined fittings etc.
- Demonstrate solid job knowledge of multiple work processes for more than one work area and is a demonstrated subject matter expert in at least one of those areas
- Frequently uses the recognized problem solving methods to solve unique problems
- Demonstrates knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and disciplines
- Trains, directs, coordinated work of lower level employees
- Conducts and supports safety measures and improvements for applicable work area
- Participates in process reviews
- Exhibits competencies and skills necessary to be a future operations lead or Manager 1
- Actively identifies and implements process improvement activities
- Proficient in Microsoft applications
- Must be able to work flexible and changing shift schedules
- Must be able to work weekends
Preferred Qualifications:
- Composite experience and/or certification preferred
- Previous composite, manufacturing, or production experience preferred
- Forklift certified
- Crane certified.
Physical Requirements:
- Stand continuously and walk continuously
- Perform standing work continuously
- Climb stairs (up to 17” height) occasionally
- Carry Materials at waist height of 60lbs occasionally for a distance of up to 30ft
- Reach with upper body continuously
- Lift, push, and/or pull various loads of up to 70lbs to different heights and in different directions
- Use thumbs and hand to apply 15lbs of force for up to 5 seconds
