Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking a Wing Data Simulator Technical Software Engineering Manager 1. This position will be located in Colorado Springs, CO and will support the Ground Based Strategic Deterrent (GBSD) program SDS Division.

The Wing Data Simulator Software Manager position is a dual-hatted role involving both technical leadership as a senior contributing engineer as well as functional management of directly reporting engineers.

As a senior engineer, the Software Manager will develop modeling and simulation software in a dynamic environment using the Agile (Scrum) framework. Experience developing software in the early stages of a project is useful but not required. Experience using design patterns early in projects to develop a strong foundation for the entire product lifecycle is suggested. The project heavily leverages CI/CD and automated test concepts, so DevSecOps experience is useful. Experience with Linux OS is required. Experience with code packaging and configuration management is strongly encouraged, as well as experience with implementing industry standard continuous delivery processes, techniques, and tools (including GitLab). Experience with databases and data logging concepts suggested. As a senior engineer, the Software Manager will be expected to provide technical mentorship.

As a manager, the Software Manager will be expected to develop and mentor a team of engineers. The Tech Lead will perform all functional management duties for their direct reports, including career development/opportunity management, goal setting, promotion planning, execution of the annual performance review process, and providing regular performance feedback. The Tech Lead can expect to spend 20-25% of their time on manager-related activities.

What you will get to do: 

  • Lead a diverse team of configuration analysts performing technical package review to include requirements specifications, drawings and technical orders to develop detailed technical reports on complex assemblies of parts and the condition of respective drawing packages.
  • Identify and pursue business opportunities within GSSC where Northrop Grumman team(s) continue to provide technical support to the United States Air Force. 
  • Develop labor cost estimates and preliminary project schedules.
  • Control Account Manger responsibilities to include management of a project budget and schedule.
  • Interacts with senior internal and external personnel to provide status reporting and obtain and implement direction to ensure successful task completion and customer satisfaction.
  • Responsibilities also include horizontal integration of DoD Systems disciplines best practices and established processes, particularly in the discipline of Configuration Management
  • Responsible for the strategic implementation of skills and labor mix; employee development; mentoring; communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, appraising, and reviewing job contributions; planning and reviewing compensation actions; enforcing policies and procedures, and supporting career path goal planning and development.

These positions will have a standard work schedule of 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.


Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree in STEM and 5 years minimum experience
  • At least one year experience leading projects or cross-functional teams
  • Active and current Secret clearance with ability to obtain and maintain PAR
  • C++ development skills
  • Experience with Agile development, especially Scrum
  • Experience with Atlassian tool suite
  • Experience with software development using a DevOps pipeline
  • Modeling and Simulation experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with secure software development such as DO-178C compliant or similar
  • Experience with real-time operating systems
  • Experience with embedded systems
  • Experience with Hardware/Software interface design 
  • Experience with software and hardware certification/accreditation  
  • Experience with CMake and Cpack
  • Scrum Master or Product Owner experience

Salary Range: $108,700 USD - $163,100 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
