We are looking for you to join our team as a Staff Modeling and Simulation Engineer based out of Colorado Springs, CO. In this position, you will have a challenging and rewarding opportunity to be our Chief Scientist/Architect for a Mission Level Modeling & Simulation Internal Research and Development (IRAD) project, solving challenging problems and supporting internal and external initiatives throughout various DoD customers and across NG. Through the use of Mission Level Modeling and Simulation techniques, DevSecOps and Agile practices, we continue to evolve how we deliver impactful and meaningful analysis, data analytics/products and capabilities for the warfighter, our Government customers and also to our internal NG customers. Our success is grounded in our ability to embrace change, move quickly and continuously drive innovation across the kill chain in the various land, sea, air & space domains. The successful candidate will be collaborative, open, transparent, and team-oriented with a focus on team empowerment & shared responsibility, flexibility, continuous learning, and a culture of automation.  The Chief Scientist/Architect will serve as a mentor and guide other teammates to innovate and solve the nation’s hardest modeling and simulation problems across the kill chain.

This position will require onsite work however for this role we are able to offer flexible work arrangements and some remote work will be possible.

Typical Responsibilities of the Chief Scientist/Architect include:

  • Advise the technical development and direction for all modeling and simulation on projects including design, architecture and development
  • Ensure the project is adhering to sound engineering processes in development, integration, reuse of software plug-ins and modeling scripts in accordance with the team’s best practices (development, configuration management and model based systems engineering).
  • Make critical technical decisions on modeling & software plug-in development and integration within the simulation framework and environment for mission level scenarios
  • Drive process development, continuous improvement and reuse across associated projects
  • Provide Domain Expertise across areas in the Kill Chain
  • Collaborate with all Tech Leads to resolve engineering conflicts and to solve program unusually/complex technical problems and to counsel on solutions that are highly innovative and achievable within the architecture
  • Support technical socialization of mission level modeling & simulation and software plug-in capabilities across Sectors, Divisions and Business Units of NG
  • Explore technical collaborations and deep dives across Sectors, Divisions and Business Units of NG in order to assess other methods of modeling & simulation techniques and processes

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or STEM-related discipline with 14 or more years of experience, or 12 years with a Master's Degree and 9 years of experience with a Ph.D.
  • Domain expertise in defense, especially Missile Defense, sensors, and satellite systems
  • Work experience and/or exposure to software engineering and modeling and simulation
  • Experience in business capture engagement and proposals
  • Deep understanding of DoD systems engineering requirements
  • Experience in systems development, integration, and test 
  • Experience in architecture and modeling across multiple engineering areas such as Space Sensors, Ground Sensors, Weapons
  • Experience in Wargaming using Modeling and Simulation
  • Active Secret Clearance and the ability to obtain a TS/SCI

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in STEM or technical management
  • Candidate must have good communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and good oral and written presentation skills
  • Experience as SME, Technical lead, Integrated Product Team (IPT) Lead, or other engineering leadership role on a modeling and simulation or software development project
  • Experience in Agile projects and software/systems architecture
  • Support on Space Based Sensor development and simulations
  • Expertise understanding of the entire End to End Kill Chain (e.g. Space Based Sensors, Ground Radars, Threats and Weapons, etc.)
  • Problem-solving experience with challenging customer problems in a team environment
  • Deep understanding and experience with AFSIM
  • Active Top Secret with the willingness to obtain TS/SCI is required

Salary Range: $141,800 USD - $212,800 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
