Northrop Grumman is seeking a Hardware Engineering Manager experienced in people management, and formal engineering life-cycle processes to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals at our Colorado Springs, Colorado facility. Qualified individuals must have a passion for developing individuals, strong engineering principles and process knowledge, and be able to adapt to changing program requirements. This position is within the Ballistic Missile Early Warning System (BMEWS), PAVE Passive Array Warning System (PAWS) (BPP) weapons system of the Sustainment and Modernization of RADAR Systems (SMORS) program. 


As the Hardware Engineering Manager on the SMORS BPP weapon system you will be responsible for a group of up to 20 individuals within the Hardware Engineering functional discipline. Within this role you will be able to:

  • Manage and support the growth of engineering staff within the hardware engineering discipline

  • Work with cross-functional discipline leads and project management to develop, plan, and execute current and future project efforts

  • Ensure HW Engineer staff have the proper tools, training, and assignments required to meet program objectives

  • Support proposal efforts and develop basis of estimates for the HW Engineering functional discipline

  • Be responsible for hiring of new engineering staff required within the hardware engineering discipline

  • Conduct yearly performance reviews

  • Directly contribute to the programs engineering and technical efforts

The successful candidate must be an effective leader, have excellent organization skills, and the ability to collaborate with various disciplines and program functions to successfully execute the program’ s objectives and goals. Previous ground-based RADAR experience and a technical background within an engineering discipline (e.g., hardware design, RF testing, computer engineering, network engineering, electrical engineering, systems engineering) is preferred.

Basic Qualification:

  • Active DOD Secret Clearance

  • 5 years’ experience with a Bachelor of Science degree, 3 Years with Masters; 0 Years with PhD

  • Experience leading teams larger than 5 individuals

  • Knowledge of all product life cycle phases, and practical experience within at least one (e.g., Concept, Design, Deployment, Sustainment)

  • Ability to travel up to 25%

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5 years’ experience with a Bachelor of Science degree within a STEM field, 3 Years with Masters; 0 Years with PhD

  • Experience with proposal efforts and development of proposal products

  • Experience applying Agile principles

  • Experience with Agile tools such as JIRA or Confluence

  • Ground Based RADAR experience

  • Experience with functional management and leadership of groups larger than 10 individuals

  • Experience with recruiting and attracting talent

  • Experienced as an individual contributor within all phases of the product life cycle (e.g., Concept, Design, Deployment, Sustainment)

Salary: $108,700 - $163,100

Salary Range: $108,700 USD - $163,100 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
