The selected candidate will become part of Northrop Grumman's Ground Based Midcourse Defense (GMD) Development and Sustainment Contract (DSC) in support of the Missile Defense Agency. The GMD Program is a critical part of the nations layered Ballistic Missile Defense System providing the US with the capability to engage and intercept long range ballistic missile threats during midcourse flight. GMD is comprised of the Ground Based Interceptor (GBI) and Ground Systems (GS) components located at geographically separated locations with two 24/7 Operations centers that are located at Ft. Greely Alaska (FGA) and the MDA Integration and Operations Center (MDIOC), Schriever AFB, Colorado. The GS component provides the capability to process data received from radars and overhead sensors, communicate across a complex network of redundant nodes, interact with the warfighter, compute intercept solutions, command and direct the GBI to intercept.

Northrop Grumman Space Sector is seeking a Systems Engineer Mgr 2 –GFC Design Mgr. to join our GMD team in Colorado Springs, CO,

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Developing and implementing Human Engineering Plans, User Interface Design Descriptions and Human Engineering Design Approach
  • Effectively communicate with variety of military and contractor personnel required.
  • Working with end-users to identify ways to improve the systems/interfaces they rely.
  • Design and evaluate human-machine interactions associated with remotely operated systems, and other distributed crew systems operated in heavily regulated environments.
  • Manage an organization of 1st level managers and GMD Systems engineers. Requiring, but not limited to, time card oversight, performance evaluation and team career planning and engagement.

Job Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree with 9 years of related experience; 7 years with Masters; 4 years with PhD
  • Secret Clearance Required to Start
  • Experience following written processes and procedures
  • Excellent communications skills
  • Ability to work well with the military customer and other subcontractors
  • DOD Secret Security clearance
  • Experience working with individual contributors, managers, and team members in dispersed locations
  • Experience in direct customer support with excellent communication skills.
  • Self-starter with 10+ years of Human Factors Engineering or UX experience as part of several multi-disciplined teams on both the government and industry sides of DoD Acquisitions.
  • Knowledge of, and experience in, Agile methodology.
  • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Project) skills

Preferred Qualifications:

Candidates with these qualifications will be given preferential consideration

  • 2 or more years’ experience managing small teams
  • STEM Degree
  • DOD Top Secret Security clearance
  • Experience with GMD or BMDS programs
  • Experience managing diverse teams and personnel

Salary Range: $130,500 USD - $195,700 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
