Northrop Grumman Space Systems – Launch and Missile Defense Systems has an exciting career opportunity for a Test Engineer II to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Colorado Springs, CO.

Position Overview:


The selected Test Engineer II will support the Missile Defense Advanced International Simulation (MDASim) product line of the DE Task Order on the Specialized Warfighter Development Contract (SWDC).  This position requires a test engineer to support the development of modeling and simulation of air and missile defense systems. This includes designing, testing, analyzing, and documenting and integrating simulation products for the Missile Defense Advanced Simulation (MDASim) organization.

Essential Functions:  

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Testing new capabilities, documenting new features, and analyzing simulation performance.
  • Working with the product and development teams, as well as external users and customers to determine acceptance criteria for new features.
  • Creating MATLAB tools to support analysis of MDASim benchmarking and anchoring activities.
  • Supporting the modeling and simulation of missile defense systems.
  • Supporting agile software team within the context of a larger team.
  • Supporting the development of simulation and software architectures.
  • Interfacing with MDASim customers and presenting technical briefings to MDASim stakeholders.
  • Researching technical details related to various missile defense systems to better support model creation and enhancement.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline preferred from an accredited university and 2 years of related experience, or a Master’s degree in a STEM discipline and 0 years of related experience.
  • Self-starter with ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Strong, written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills to collaborate effectively with technical teams and customer personnel.
  • Familiarity with Agile software development practices.
  • Understanding of software development and Windows platforms.
  • Applicants must be able to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Government security clearance at the DoD secret level.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in developing tools in MATLAB and/or similar analysis software.
  • Experience in engineering Integrated Air and Missile Defense system simulations. 
  • Experience in agile software development methodologies including Scrum, Kanban, and Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe).
  • Knowledge/experience in SQL queries.
  • Experience in engineering M&S systems using an optimistic and/or conservative discrete event simulation platform.
  • Knowledge or experience in several of the following: missile defense domain knowledge, command and control, and modeling and simulation development. 
  • Experience with Atlassian tools such as JIRA, confluence and, GIT.

Salary Range: $68,100 USD - $102,100 USD
Salary Range 2: $83,800 USD - $125,800 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
