Job Summary:

Engineering Manager 2 for the Design, Analysis, Tooling, and Configuration Management team at Commerce California, where we design and manufacture pressure vessels for use in space applications.  The Northrop Grumman Commerce facility is the leading supplier of pressure vessels for space missions in the world.  At the facility we produce a wide variety of pressure vessels supporting a wide variety of missions, both foreign and domestic, commercial, defense, and civil space.  This position is part of the design and analysis engineering team.  This position reports to a Senior Manager of Engineering and is a working manager role.

Responsibilities include:

  • Primary responsibilities include:

    • Manage a multidisciplinary team of engineers and professionals and their associated work products (preliminary sizing, concept development, component selection, mechanical integration, preliminary hardware design, tooling design, drawing creation & release and fabrication support) to meet Safety, Quality, Delivery, Employee, and Cost metrics

    • Support program IPTs to successfully manage hardware and tooling design and drawings

    • Engage regularly with designers, analysts, and configuration management staff to create propulsion tank products and tooling hardware

    • Provide functional leadership, employee development, training and mentoring. Establish and track goals and objectives for staff, conduct employee performance reviews, and implement employee development plans

    • Establish and maintain metrics that provide real-time visibility to measure, monitor, and control process performance, including key inputs, outputs, and early warning event triggers

    • Participate in drawing planning, design and analysis coordination, resource assignments and execution

    • Present execution plans and track results in coordination with senior manager

    • Provide overflow capability for the design, drafting, and tooling teams

    • Generate and administer training plans in accordance with company standards

    • Provide employee mentoring and career development opportunities

    • Interpret and apply Corporate processes and procedures that affect the engineering and configuration management staff

    • Forecast staffing needs and coordinate with senior manager to support business operations

    • Develop, implement, and support process improvements, tools and training to reduce the enterprise design costs

    • Support internal and external customer and industry audits

Qualifications / Abilities:

  • Requires a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering or related engineering/scientific discipline and ten (10) years of design related experience (or an equivalent combination of education and experience)

  • Expertise in one of the following core competency areas: design, tooling, or analysis engineering

  • Understanding of Aerospace industry standards and specifications and application to space flight components and drawings

  • US Citizenship required

  • Clearance is not required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MS in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering

  • 10+ years’ experience in an aerospace manufacturing facility

  • 2+ years managing an engineering team

  • Experience with pressure vessel design and analysis

  • Experience with machining and welding of Titanium and Titanium Alloys

  • Experience with Teamcenter or equivalent drawing configuration management suite

  • Experienced with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

  • CAD solid modeling (experience with Siemens NX preferred)

  • Detailed knowledge of manufacturing best practices, including knowledge of machining, welding, and assembly

  • Experience with Configuration Management process for drawing release

  • Excellent oral and written communication, computer, documentation, and presentation skills are required

  • Ability to multi-task

  • Ability to prioritize and manage time effectively

Salary Range: $130,500 USD - $195,700 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
