Engineering Manager 2: Manufacturing Execution Systems and Production Execution Support

Northrop Grumman Space Systems is currently looking for an Engineering Manager to work at our Bacchus or Promontory (Utah) location.

Job Description:

The position is for a manager over a group of approximately 18 personnel who are responsible for Propulsion Systems’ Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) efforts plus supporting production focused software and hardware implementation tasks. The MES teams are responsible for designing, developing, and supporting the Electronic Shop Instruction (ESI) suite plus supporting Solumina for all of Propulsion Systems.

The position is in the Process Engineering department and will be based at the Promontory or Bacchus Utah location.

Responsibilities and Desired Skills:

  • Manage and support all activities related to an in-house custom developed and controlled Java based electronic shop floor instruction system.

  • Manage and support all activities of the Case Value Stream Document Control team related to Solumina.

  • Manage efforts of all teams to maintain a robust interface with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems, which currently are based on Siemens TeamCenter (ePIC and TcUA).

  • Lead the creation of a long-term plan for the group that supports initiatives such as digital transformation and unification of systems to improve efficiency.

  • Create the vision to develop and execute leadership objectives, which includes team member and process development utilizing strong technical approach.

  • Demonstrated ability to create and maintain strong teams. Applicable skills include member coaching, performance reviews, and talent recruitment.

  • Emphasis instilling confidence from subordinates, peers, and senior leadership.

  • Ensure required staffing resources are effectively deployed to develop and support production through work instruction software and training.

  • Demonstrated ability to strategically plan and execute vision, drive improvement, long term focus.

  • Strong understanding of problem-solving techniques, implementation of PES principles, and commitment to NG leadership philosophies, which includes leadership standard work, and company values.

  • Proficient in MS Office 365 suite.

  • Assertive work ethic, including setting a strong leadership example.

  • Preparing and presenting technical presentations to leadership and customers for review and approval.

  • Analyze and determine best improvements for software systems.

  • Software testing (manual and automated).

  • Customer service experience in software support.

  • Implementation of software in the organization.

  • Computer function in a manufacturing environment.

  • Report creation and analytical skills.

Minimum Requirements:

  • B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Computer Science or Information Technology (other technical degrees may be considered).

  • Minimum experience required:  9 years with a Bachelor’s, 7 years with a Master’s, or 4 years with a Doctorate.

  • Demonstrated experience as project lead, with strong problem-solving skills.

  • Extensive background in application development, including help documentation.

  • Demonstrated leadership experience.

  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.

Preferred Experience:

  • Prior management experience, especially with direct reports.

  • Operations or Process Engineering understanding with strong focus on safety.

  • Experience with Manufacturing Execution System (MES) deployment and administration.

  • Experience as a UUEC lead (or similar investigation effort).

  • Background with the software change process, including testing methods.

  • Demonstrated knowledge engineering management tools (ESI, ePIC, SIS/EMS, TcUA, etc.).

  • Software agile development using Scrum and Sprint development cycles.

  • Jira for software development and management.

  • Support of a software help desk, change management, and documentation.

  • Engineering change management and documentation experience.

  • Active Directory and Organizational Unit experience.

  • Experience with financial tracking and forecasting, preferably with EVMS methods.


Salary Range: $112,700 USD - $169,100 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
