NG Space Systems – Propulsion Systems is currently seeking a Staff Structural Engineer for our Nozzle Structures team supporting several locations within the Flight Systems, but home location would be the Promontory UT facility.

Role description & Responsibilities:

  • Advanced understanding of stress strain relationships in advanced materials exposed to typical rocket motor nozzle environments.

  • Willingness to address difficult structural problems using knowledge and experience.

  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of state of the art composite structures.

  • Innovative mindset for new and efficient ways of doing things.

  • Ability to communicate complex research results to internal and external customers

  • Support requests and activities associated with various rocket motor programs.

  • Understand the various specialized materials used in nozzles.

  • Mentoring others

Job Duties: 

  • Perform structural analysis of solid rocket motor nozzles.

  • Interpret test data and apply test results to analytical structural models

  • Communicate with customers and articulate the meaning of analysis and test results.

  • Research test events in nozzles to identify how the nozzle design responds to motor operation.

  • Understand materials used in rocket motor nozzles.

  • Define material testing to determine analysis properties for nozzle materials.

  • Willing to mentor engineers on nozzle topics.

  • Work will be located at NG’s Promontory facility.

  • US Citizenship required.

Experience Requirements:  

  • 9 years minimum experience with a PHD degree, 12 years minimum experience with a Master’s degree, 14 years with a Bachelor’s degree

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Knowledge about and has demonstrated ability with textbook structural analysis techniques (ie. Elasticity, plates and shells, continuum mechanics, compressible gas equations).

  • Excellent mentoring skills for Nozzle Design and Analysis

  • Proficient with the use of FEA modeling techniques.

  • Knowledge of material test techniques.

  • Writing and presentation skills to communicate analysis results to customers.

  • A passion for structural analysis.

Education/Certifications:

  • A BS degree in Mechanical, Civil or Aerospace Engineering is the minimum education requirement. Masters degree is preferred


Salary Range: $134,700 USD - $202,100 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
