Training Manager 2: Instructional Design and Training Coordination

Northrop Grumman Space Systems is currently looking for a Training Manager to work at our Bacchus or Promontory (Utah) location.

Job Description:

The position is for a manager over a group of approximately 11 personnel who are responsible for all training in Propulsion Systems. The group creates, distributes, and administers over 3200 training certifications. Additional responsibilities include tour and training coordination, which supports onboarding new hires and providing training support for production value streams. The position is in the Process Engineering department and will be based at the Promontory or Bacchus location.

Responsibilities and Desired Skills:

  • Manage and support all activities related to technical training for Propulsion Systems, administration of the learning management system (LMS) known as GLX (Saba), and classroom training and development.

  • Manage all training needs for production and support for new hire onboarding.

  • Manage tours for the Promontory and Bacchus campuses.

  • Lead the creation of a long-term plan for the group, including efforts to streamline and optimize the assignment, delivery, and tracking of training to all PS employees.

  • Create the vision to develop and execute leadership objectives, which includes team member and process development utilizing strong technical approach.

  • Demonstrated ability to create and maintain strong teams. Applicable skills include member coaching, performance reviews, and talent recruitment.

  • Emphasis instilling confidence from subordinates, peers, and senior leadership.

  • Ensure required staffing resources are effectively deployed to develop and support production through work instruction software and training.

  • Demonstrated ability to strategically plan and execute vision, drive improvement, long term focus.

  • Strong understanding of problem-solving techniques, implementation of PES principles, and commitment to NG leadership philosophies, which includes leadership standard work, and company values.

  • Experience with training development techniques.

  • Background in training, instructional design, and classroom instruction.

  • Experience tracking the effectiveness of training methods.

  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills.

  • Proficient in MS Office 365 suite.

  • Assertive work ethic, including setting a strong leadership example.

  • Preparing and presenting technical presentations to leadership and customers for review and approval.

  • Training methods and needs in a manufacturing environment.

  • Report creation and analytical skills.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctorate in Instructional Design, Adult Education, or related field (other degrees may be considered).

  • Minimum experience required:  9 years with a Bachelor’s, 7 years with a Master’s, or 4 years with a Doctorate.

  • Demonstrated experience as project lead, with strong problem-solving skills.

  • Extensive background and experience in training and learning management.

  • Demonstrated leadership experience.

  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.

Preferred Experience:

  • Prior management experience, especially with direct reports.

  • eLearning publishing tool (Lectora. Captivate, Storyline, etc.).

  • Learning Management System (LMS) experience (Saba, Moodle, Canvas, etc).

  • Operations or Process Engineering understanding with strong focus on safety.

  • Understanding of a customer Help Desk, including tracking methods.

  • Background in training theory and knowledge of state-of-the-art training techniques.

  • Financial tracking and forecasting experience, preferably with EVMS methods.


Salary Range: $102,500 USD - $153,700 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
