Northrop Grumman’s Propulsion Systems organization is seeking an Information Development and Instructional Technology Specialist (or professional with a similar technical background). The candidate will document and train end users in the function and use of a proprietary software suite that is used for a wide variety of end users, including Operations, Process Engineering, and Quality Engineering teams. The candidate will also test and provide interface feedback on product updates.

The position is based out of our Promontory, UT, location but other locations and telecommuting/remote work options are available.

Responsibilities include:

• Ownership of all product documentation and training.

• Creating and writing effective help files and release notes.

• Development and maintenance of a help file library developed using DITA standards and Oxygen software.
• Design, develop, and manage product Web sites using SharePoint and HTML.
• Effective communication with technical leaders to develop, review, and deliver documentation and training.

• Design and deliver Web-based and instructor-led training.
• Manage class schedules, student registration, and student privileges on the training platform and production.
• Provide help desk support both to new employees and to end users.

• Test new software updates and provide feedback from an end user perspective.

• Review new software updates and provide feedback that ensures a consistent look and feel across the software suite.

Educational Requirements: 
• Bachelor’s degree in Technical Communication or Instructional Design (or related discipline) with five (5) or more years of experience; or Master’s degree with three (3) or more years of professional experience; or Doctoral degree with zero (0) years of experience.
• Position may be filled at a higher level requiring a Bachelor’s degree with nine (9) or more years of experience; or Master’s degree with seven (7) or more years of experience; or Doctoral degree with four (4) or more years of experience.

Basic Qualifications: 
• Must be able to present a portfolio with writing samples, instructional materials and/or help content that you have created and is in use. A portfolio review will take place before the interview and must be available in advance for the panel to review.

• Experience working DITA and delivering content in various output formats. 

• Understanding of Help File design, format styles of various document types, review cycles, software design and documentation support.

• Experience creating and publishing product help documentation and training materials on intranet sites using SharePoint or HTML.

• Must be able to accurately represent customer requirements by using excellent listening, interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.

• Have a positive attitude and flexibility in doing the right thing for our end users.

• Ability to manage documentation revisions.

• Experience supporting software development and managing and delivering to a documentation schedule.
• Experience teaching technical content, both Web-based and instructor-led.

• Flexibility to work in an operational environment where priorities change frequently.

• Ability to work well in a cross-team environment.

• Comfortable being a part of a software help desk that takes calls from end users and finding a satisfactory, efficient resolutions to questions.
 

Preferred Qualifications (Some Required For Higher Pay Grade): 
• Experience developing help systems and delivering training.

• Knowledge of manufacturing processes and use of computers in manufacturing.

• Understanding of software development and customer support.

• Understand engineering configuration management rules and apply them to software data requirements.

• Experience with both Windows and UNIX/Linux operating systems.

• Software and business process analysis experience.

• Experience supporting software updates across an organization.
• Server/Client software installation and testing experience.
• Knowledge of documentation revision control and lifecycle approval, especially Siemens product lifecycle management (PLM) applications (TcUA or ePIC).


Salary Range: $71,100 USD - $106,700 USD
Salary Range 2: $87,600 USD - $131,400 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
