AOA Xinetics (AOX), a wholly owned Northrop Grumman Space Systems, Payload and Ground Systems Division Business Venture, is a leading supplier of complex electro-optic and photonic systems and subsystems that control and manipulate light waves for a variety of applications. We are seeking an Optical Alignment Technician for our facility in Devens, MA.


Reporting to the Production Manager of Precision Devices, the Optical Alignment Technician 4 will perform a variety of duties in the electronic, mechanical, electro-mechanical or optical areas as related to optical systems. Establishes test setups, conducts testing and reports data in prescribed formats. Performs inspection, cleaning, bonding, and troubleshooting of optical components. Assembles, aligns, troubleshoots, adjusts, tests, and maintains optical components, sub-assemblies, systems and associated support equipment. Performs electronic fault analysis, repair as related to optical sub-systems, systems, and drive electronics. Follows appropriate laser safety and laser cleanliness procedures/practices.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Perform various functions associated with alignment and testing of free space optical components and optical systems

  • Use a variety of metrology and inspection tools to test and inspect optical components for accuracy and quality

  • Required to read and understand blueprints and technical drawings

  • May build or modify equipment used to align and test precision optics

  • Sets up and tests complete units and subassemblies under operational conditions

  • Bonds a variety of dissimilar materials (composite, metal, or laminate) assemblies, parts, or structures into semi-finished or finished products

  • Follows appropriate safety and equipment maintenance procedures

  • Mixes and prepares epoxies for use

  • Operates ovens to complete bonding cycle. Controls conditions of heat, pressure, and timing by setting and operating various controls according to the specifications for the materials and the bonding agent being used

  • Work in accordance with established safety rules and good housekeeping practices

  • Briefly work on tasks outside of this job description as directed by the supervisors for training, emergency relief purposes

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Basic Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

  • Three years’ optical alignment and testing experience

  • Experience in reading and interpreting drawings and blue prints

  • Use of basic hand tools

  • Strong attention to detail and effective verbal/written communication skills

  • Proficient Microsoft Office skills

  • U.S. Citizenship is a requirement for employment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to work independently to lay out own work

  • Basic knowledge of optic and electrical test equipment

  • Knowledge/experience with optical interferometry

  • Ability to follow bonding instructions and handle all types of epoxies

  • Active DoD clearance

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs

  • Ability to stand, sit, walk and bend for long periods of time

Salary Range: 69200 - 115400

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
