AOA Xinetics (AOX), a wholly-owned Northrop Grumman Space Systems, Payload and Ground Systems Division Business Venture, is a leading supplier of complex electro-optic and photonic systems and subsystems that control and manipulate light waves for a variety of applications.  Our talented team of engineers, managers and technologists conceive, design, develop and manufacture high precision products in an environment that requires significant collaboration and team work among multiple engineering disciplines.

We are currently seeking a Manufacturing Engineering Manager 1 – Actuator Value Stream for its Manufacturing organization located in Devens, MA.

Overview

The Manufacturing Engineering Manager I – Actuator Value Stream will be responsible for leading the execution and support of current projects and programs in the area of Electro Ceramics. The incumbent will be responsible for the day to day management of activities of manufacturing engineers involved with the manufacture of PMN-based electro strictive actuators and modules.

Specifically, the Manufacturing Engineering Manager 1 will be responsible for daily production and process development. They will be the technical interface between the product engineering staff, actuator value stream manufacturing engineers, and production

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • As a leader of the MA Manufacturing Engineering Organization, would work collaboratively with peers and peer organizations in the development and production of ferro-ceramic material and end-use products, including the automation utilized to produce same.

  • Provide leadership, materials, and process support to all aspects of PMN material, and end-use product production. This role would support project/program work from new product introduction to ramp up of current production in support of the targeted business growth objectives.

  • Responsible for the review, feedback, and drive to release, of work instructions, material and manufacturing flows.

  • Leads the development of manufacturing engineering processes, monitors process metrics and associated manufacturing work cell functionality. Manufacturing processes shall enable the manufacturing of current and future AOX products that meet technical specifications, high quality standards, and relevant agency compliance requirements.

  • Identify and propose manufacturing improvements projects in collaboration with team members including the following: manufacturing process improvement, yield management, production rate improvement and work cell enhancements and procurement. Use fundamental physical and materials science principles to drive production and design changes that result in superior products.

  • Responding to production process problems and driving the implementation of solutions. Collaborate with the Quality Organization to reduce defects and maintain high production yield rates.

  • Customer-facing responsibilities as it relates to Manufacturing Engineering; (i) Support briefings and technical meetings with external customers; and (ii) periodically address customer manufacturing engineering issues and concerns as the company’s POC. This includes the creation of technical presentations that may or may not be presented by the individual.

  • Identify systems and process goals to ensure that work cells and equipment meet operational performance and usage requirements (OEE). included in the AOX Manufacturing Preventive Maintenance Program.

  • Collaborates with Product Engineering regarding design concepts and specification requirements to best use work cell capabilities and manufacturing processes to assure “design for manufacturing” products.

  • Accountable to meet or exceed the Manufacturing Engineering and support the Operational safety, quality, delivery, employee, and cost (SQDEC) expectations of external and internal customers across all AOX programs supported by the actuator value stream.

Basic Qualifications:

  • B.S. in Material Science or related discipline is required

  • Clear, concise oral and written communication skills

  • Proficiency in MS Office applications

  • Strong critical thinking and logical reasoning skills and the ability to apply them to solve issues and predict potential technical risks.

  • Proven root-cause and Ishikawa analysis skill sets.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Experience leading or managing engineers

  • Experience working in a commercial aerospace production environment

  • Background in ceramic raw materials and ceramic manufacturing techniques

  • Experience in leadership of teams in resolving complex technical issues

  • Lean Sigma Green Belt or equivalent


Salary Range: $98,800 USD - $148,200 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
