We have an opening for a Sr. Director of Electrical Engineering to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals in the Tactical Space organization. This position will be located in Dulles, VA or can also be located in Gilbert, AZ.

Northrop Grumman Tactical Space Systems Division (TSSD) is seeking a Sr. Director of Electrical Engineering to lead the Electrical Discipline of our engineering matrix.  In this role, you will be responsible for providing the personnel, processes, and software tools to meet the current and future needs of the programs and technologies within our Space Security, NSS and CCS business unit areas.   This person must demonstrate success leading locally and virtually as a part of a geographically dispersed team. 

You will be able to demonstrate success in applying leadership characteristics to achieve sustainable top performance, a commitment to ethics and integrity, and the capability to innovate while challenging traditional ways of doing business.  In this role, you should possess the ability to balance programmatic needs to deliver results within cost, schedule, and quality parameters while encouraging and rewarding innovative behaviors through all levels of the organization. 

Demonstrated abilities to build diverse and inclusive teams with high levels of engagement, including mentoring and coaching, are a must.  Excellent verbal and writing communication skills are required.  You should have demonstrated success in influencing the direction of technology or engineering discriminators, including identifying and championing change within the organization, to achieve competitive advantage for the business.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Identification of high quality technical personnel to meet the increasing demand of the business
  • Provide the technical and people leadership needed to establish and maintain an exceptional Electrical Engineering organization across multiple locations, divisions and programs
  • Provide oversight and leadership to our Space Avionics, ECAD Packaging, EGSE Work Center, Electrical Subsystems and Command and Data Handling (C&DH), Harness Design, Power Subsystems, RF and Test Engineering
  • Responsibility for the development, design, implementation, application, training, and product support of state-of-the-art solutions in support of key targets within the TSSD Portfolio
  • Managing budgets required for the discipline to perform their statements of work; provide functional oversight across the Electrical Disciplines, including bid and proposal inputs for future work, independent technical reviews of major programs and R&D projects as well as organizational budget management
  • Establish and maintain the discipline specific processes and tools for TSSD
  • Facilitate and promote Affordability, Knowledge Management, Engineering Utilization, and other process improvement initiatives including the implementation and monitoring of metrics covering engineering efficiency and quality, as well as sharing of lessons learned and best practices throughout the organization
  • Championing consistency across the discipline ensuring reuse, common tools and training/skill development through all levels of the organization
  • Ability to identify gaps, forecast potential issues to successful software performance and the ability to apply root cause analysis skills
  • Must be capable of strong partnership to ensure lockstep coordination with adjacent discipline areas and program manager leadership

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math – or related technical area)
  • 10 years of leadership experience leading programs, projects, and personnel
  • 10 years of Electrical related experience with a high proficiency in technical problem solving to include decomposition, root cause analysis, solution development, implementation and monitoring
  • Previous work experience leading electrical or systems teams on a diverse range of program sizes, values, and complexity
  • Demonstrated electrical or systems engineering leadership experience, preferably with experience in the electrical system design of the spacecraft, design of avionics systems, design of RF systems, technology, and/or other space/satellite systems
  • Working knowledge of Staffing, Engineering Metrics and Training resources, processes, and tools
  • Active or current Top Secret clearance with the ability to obtain SCI level access
  • US Citizenship

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master of Science in Engineering or other STEM discipline and/or MBA degree
  • Active TS/SCI Clearance
  • Hands-on technical experience with Spacecraft or satellite related systems
  • Experience with hardware and manufacturing organizations
  • Proven experience leading technical diverse teams across multiple locations
  • Must have experience effectively leading diverse technical teams across multiple locations
  • Adept with Agile methodology, concepts and implantation

Space System





Salary Range: 231000 - 346600

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
