The Tactical Space Systems Division is looking for an Associate Mechanical Design Engineer/ Mechanical Design Engineer to assist with thermal hardware design, installation drawings, thermal test, and integration inspections support within the Thermal Hardware Group in Dulles, VA.

Essential Functions:

  • Integration and Test (I&T) support to monitor component integration and conduct thermal hardware inspections

  • Thermal hardware design and multilayer insulation (MLI) installation drawing creation

  • Hardware tracking and reporting

  • Thermal test and analysis support (thermal vacuum, venting analysis, etc.)

  • Compilation of comprehensive parts lists using information from Bills of Materials (BOMs), engineering drawings, online databases, and data from subcontractors and suppliers

  • Candidate must be comfortable with meeting deadlines, working on multiple projects concurrently, and working with various engineering disciplines and customers as required to build data product. The candidate may be requested to assist with work in a laboratory or cleanroom environment.

This requisition may be filled at a higher grade based on qualifications listed below.

Basic Qualifications for the Associate Mechanical/Thermal Engineer 1:

  • Be completing or has completed their Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution. Be majoring in or having majored in Mechanical, Aerospace, Thermal Engineering or a related field

  • Have an overall cumulative GPA of 3.0 out of 4.0 or higher (unofficial academic transcripts must be provided at time of application by uploading the documents to your application or profile)

  • Be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance (U.S. citizenship is a pre-requisite)

Preferred Qualifications for Associate Mechanical/Thermal Engineer 1:

  • Active TS/SCI

Basic Qualifications for the Mechanical/Thermal Engineer 2:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Thermal Engineering with 2 years of experience in technical area or 0 years experience with a Masters Degree

  • Experience with design, modeling, and drawing efforts using 3-D modeling tools.

  • Basic knowledge of thermal hardware for space vehicles (MLI/Blanketing, heaters, thermistors, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications for the Mechanical/Thermal Engineer 2:

  • Active TS/SCI

Salary Range: $68,100 USD - $102,100 USD
Salary Range 2: $82,400 USD - $123,600 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
