Northrop Grumman Tactical Space Systems is seeking a Principal Systems Engineer. This position will be located in Dulles, VA and will support Tactical Space Systems Division in their development and deployment of satellite ground software to customer resources. This Systems Engineer will lead a small thread team comprised of Systems Engineers.  As a Systems Engineering Thread Lead, you will be the owner of all capabilities allocated to your respective thread, coordinating the various internal program and external task order contributors through the capability’s definition, decomposition, implementation, and verification processes. This position may be performed virtually and relocation may be available.

What You’ll Get to Do:

  • In this hands-on working leadership role, the Systems Engineering Thread Lead will be responsible for

  • coordinating and combining like capabilities within your thread, striving for common solutions within the thread

  • providing “product line” perspective to their thread team

  • ensuring your thread is consistent with the overarching system architecture and design, and to continuously evaluate the portions of the architecture supported by their thread for quality and the other “-ilities”

  • becoming the “subject matter expert” for your thread

  • coordinating your thread team’s activities with other Thread Leads and other functional groups across the broader organization

  • coordinating your team’s requirements analysis, definition, and decomposition activities

  • developing system level design artifacts to enable the software design, implementation, and testing of a capability

  • scheduling internal program and external task order reviews for capability decomposition and verification signoff activities

  • support the maintenance and execution of internal program system engineering process


Basic Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience with a Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM discipline; 3 years of relevant experience with a Masters' degree; 0 years of experience with a PhD

  • Either a working knowledge of systems engineering principles and processes; experience operating SVs or working knowledge of and/or application of aerospace engineering principles

  • Demonstrated experience quickly learning new concepts and approaches

  • Demonstrated proficiency in analytical thinking and problem-solving skills and Systems thinking mindset

  • US Citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain Security Clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active TS/SCI clearance

  • Experience with requirements analysis, definition, and decomposition

  • Familiarity with space ground software and operations

  • Experience with Agile development

  • Familiarity with Model-Based Systems Engineering languages (SysML/UML) and concepts

  • Differentiating characteristics include demonstrated leadership and teamwork capability, interpersonal communication skills and activities (professional/community/extracurricular) and an enthusiastic go getter attitude

  • Effectively communicate and present to project and program management, other technical managers, and customers

Salary Range: $101,400 USD - $152,200 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
