We have an opening for Engineering Manager – RF/COMMS to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals in the Tactical Space organization. This position will be located in Dulles, VA.  This position can also be performed with a hybrid work schedule.

This role is for a leader in an engineering organization that employs multi-disciplined engineering resources, tools, and processes to support the specification, design, implementation, verification, validation, and delivery of spacecraft related products.  These products include RF components, antennas, radios, RF systems analyses and integration and test.

You will report to and work with the RF/Communications department managers and be a key member of the Engineering leadership team working side-by-side with the Operations, Manufacturing, Integration and Test, Supply Chain, and Program Managers from all Business Areas.

To be considered, you must have a proven track record that includes technical leadership as well as broad technical exposure to the following skill sets:

  • FPGA – Radio/RF specific uses; waveform development, error correction, channelization, etc.
  • RF component design/test
  • RF system integration
  • RF system analysis – cosite interference, link budgets, etc.
  • “Payload manager”
  • Antenna design/analysis

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

In this role you will be responsible and accountable for technical, schedule, and cost performance in the delivery of RF components and RF systems products to programs. You will provide RF/Comms Technical oversight by engaging in:

  • Proposal Development (including review and approval of Technical, Cost, Schedule baselines)
  • Engineering Review Board and CCBs
  • Technical peer and readiness reviews
  • Lessons Learned, Corrective/Preventative Actions, Continuous Improvement
  • IRAD Management

You will also assist the Sr. Manager by providing direction and leadership to the RF/Comms team for:

  • Employee Allocation, Utilization Planning, and Assignments
  • Recruiting
  • Training, Career Development, and Professional Growth
  • Personnel Communications
  • Software Tools, Computers, and Facilities and Equipment Infrastructure Support
  • Performance Evaluation and Salary Management
  • Proposal Support, Review, and Approval
  • Strategic Planning and Risk Management
  • Technical Standards and Engineering Processes
  • Increase Product Line Competitiveness through innovative and paradigm changing solutions in technology, cost, schedule, and mission designs
  • Drive common RF product solutions across all target mission areas
  • Evolve RF product capabilities to minimize complexity, reduce cost/schedule/risk while leveraging state of the art technologies
  • Identify, assess, and improve upon core competencies across the organization
  • Improve work force competitiveness through culture integration, talent management, and infrastructure investment
  • Improve the State of Health of the organization resources through active and engaging management processes (Personnel, Capital, Facility, Safety)

Basic Qualifications

  • Minimum 7 years of relevant experience as a technical leader or manager of an electrical engineering effort
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or other technical field
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and troubleshoot RF systems and process related issues. Ability to manage failure review boards to successful completion in a timely fashion
  • Ability to effectively lead, train, mentor, and develop engineering professionals in all career phases
  • A strong engineering background with excellent organizational and communications skills
  • A view towards continuous improvement with ability to build effective relationships with company senior management and internal stakeholders
  • Ability to oversee projects effectively and to take personal responsibility for their completion on schedule and within budget
  • Ability to gather data from multiple sources and summarize key issues

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master of Science
  • Broad and in-depth experience in Spacecraft Engineering Development
  • Top Secret Clearance

Salary Range: $143,500 USD - $215,300 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
