This is a Cyber/Systems Security Engineering management position focused on Software Security Assurance in a DevSecOps environment that is 100% Agile and focused on securing and modernizing ground segment and mission application software.  Manager Cyber/Systems Security Engineering performs hiring and management of Software Security Assurance experts in support of software modernization efforts.  The manager must be highly skilled and a capable leader in the area of software security assurance.  The manager’s staff are responsible for performing Static and Dynamic security scanning of mission application software; Application Security STIG conformance; and development of Secure Application Architectures.

Cyber Software Security Assurance Manager Responsibilities include:

  • Allocating staff across multiple programs; planning staff transition events; hiring/recruiting; conducting performance reviews; and coaching staff to meet goals.
  • Working in an Agile engineering environment, where the Cyber/Systems Security Engineering Manager may lead and assign staff to the triage of Static Code Analysis (SCA) tool findings (e.g. Fortify) and assist in prioritizing the findings as technical debt in the SwDLC backlog.
  • Lead or oversee engineering trades of alternative approaches to best meet security requirements for complex software-focused mission-unique software.
  • Lead or oversee engineering trades to identify secure interface alternatives and communications protocols to secure complex ground system environments, utilizing containerization and microservices architectures.
  • Lead or oversee engineering documentation for Software Security Assurance practices and procedures.
  • Staffing scrum teams with Cyber Software Security Engineers to guide developers towards implementing secure coding mechanisms within Agile Scrum teams to ensure secure coding standards are employed during every sprint for every module.
  • Providing staff and leadership towards Architecting secure deployment containers for heritage applications.
  • Providing staff and leadership for personnel performing vulnerability scanning, remediation and patch management activities on Windows and Red Hat operating systems and various COTS/GOTS applications, including those within virtualized and/or cloud environments.
  • Providing staff and leadership towards evaluating the security posture of containerized applications and developing remediation approaches to improve overall security.
  • Working as a Cyber SME in a software developer-centric Scrum Team as the Cyber advocate to ensure security hardening guidance is adopted.
  • Documenting Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and when needed, performing software patch installation, other flaw remediation, antivirus updates, and continuous monitoring (ConMon) activities.
  • Ensuring systems are operated, maintained, and disposed of in accordance with security policies and procedures as outlined in the system security authorization package. 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in STEM Science Technology Engineering Math
  • 6 years IT security experience, with at least 2 years in a technical leadership position in the Defense/Aerospace Industry
  • Must have U.S. Citizenship with active or current Top Secret level clearance
  • CISSP and/or CSSLP certification
  • Exposure to requirements analysis and decomposition.  Demonstrated knowledge of Systems Engineering processes, milestones and SDLC.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Degree in Computer Science, Electrical, or Computer Engineering
  • 5 years experience in the Defense Aerospace Industry
  • 3 years experience managing small teams
  • Use of common Agile tool suites (Jira, Confluence, etc) and/or Kanban practices.


Salary Range: $119,600 USD - $179,400 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
