Explore your future and launch your career today!   We have an opening for a Software Mission Assurance Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals in the Tactical Space organization. This position will be located in Dulles, VA.   In this role, you will become part of Northrop Grumman's Tactical Space Systems (NGTSSD) Division. We are looking for a high-caliber individual with a background in software mission assurance, quality assurance, and audit compliance of flight software, firmware, simulators, test scripts, and ground support for spacecraft development programs. You will monitor, audit, and assure software and firmware product development compliance to contractual requirements, company standard of excellence, and customer goal satisfaction.   To be successful in this role you should have a good understanding of software development life cycles that align with ISO, AS9100, and Agile.  Additionally, you should have experience in software product compliance audits and root cause corrective action.  A detail oriented approach to identifying and capturing noncompliance and risks throughout the software’s development life cycle and maintenance will serve you well in this role.   Excellent people and technical skills are required to coordinate with subcontractors, various subsystems, and interact with management to conduct audits and implement corrective actions. In this role you will implement software mission/flight assurance as an integrated part of the NGTSSD Safety and Mission Assurance team while working with Control Systems Engineering, Integration and Test, Systems Engineering, Simulator Software, Ground Software staff and other various groups to identify and resolve quality, software, and firmware mission or flight assurance issues.    The Software Mission Assurance (SW MA) Engineer will support multiple intelligence community spacecraft programs from the Dulles, VA location.   Job Responsibilities
  • Experience in the review and extraction of quality and assurance requirements from contract documents, statement of work, internal Quality Management System (QMS) requirements, and relevant program plans
  • Establish, implement, and maintain a software mission assurance plan and practices used to ensure products and tools conform to company standards of excellence
  • Support tailoring and implementation of QMS policies and procedures including performing internal compliance audits and bring non-conformances to resolution
  • Interpret customer technical, software, and mission assurance requirements and ensure those requirements are integrated into program plans, specifications, and product documents
  • Ensure program contract requirements are flowed down internally and to subcontractors
  • Interface with software subcontractors in the verification of product design, quality, and reliability
  • Ensure compliance with contract program, quality, organizational, and industry alert requirements
  • Provide software assurance including software configuration management, error tracking, training and audits of flight, embedded, ground and test software teams in alignment with QMS requirements
  • Provide oversight in discrepancy review and software failure investigations as well as cause and corrective action determinations. Analyze and interpret trends and execute improvements on key metrics
  • Perform Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA) analysis and Problem Solving activities on program-specific deficiencies
  • Represent Software Mission Assurance at various program reviews and review boards including but not limited to Engineering Review Board (ERB), Configuration Control Board (CCB), Defect Review Board (DRB), Program Management Reviews (PMR), Safety Review Board (SRB), Software Peer Reviews, Test Readiness Reviews (TRR), and Corrective Action Board (CAB)
  • Ensure Software Risk Management activities are executed according to standards and procedures
  • Perform Software Configuration Management (SCM) tasks for software change control and releasing of software products. Support software engineering in the Configuration and Data Management (CDM) software release process
  • As a member of the Software Configuration Control Board (SCCB), review Software Problem Reports (SPR), assess compliance to process, and monitor software changes for safety impact
  • Provide Systems engineering support for CCBs Risk Management including opportunity, risks, and mitigation identification
  • Provide Systems Engineering support for internal, external, and supplier technical reviews
  • Provide Supplier Chain Management support for product procurement including resolution of requirements exceptions form offers/suppliers, Subcontractor Data Requirements (SDRL) reviews, supplier audits, and inspections
  • Perform Cost Account Management duties such as Earn Value Management System reporting
  • Witness software build testing, flight software qualification, and Integration and Test (I&T) spacecraft software installation while addressing software escapes and disposition root cause/corrective action
  • Provide Mission Operations support, witness software patch testing, and approve software uploads once the patch has been re-qualified
  • Develop and deliver metrics and reports as needed

Basic Qualifications:
  • A Bachelors in a STEM field, ideally Computer Science/Engineering, is strongly preferred.  In lieu of a degree, must have a minimum of 7 years’ experience in a Software Mission Assurance field or 9 + years’ experience in related field such as systems engineering, software development, or software configuration management while holding a strong quality mindset
  • Able to read engineering documentation such as contractual standards, program plans, statement of work, requirements, software specs, test plans/procedures, software media description, and software test reports.  You should be able to interpret requirements testability and clarity, software escapes, develop audit plans, and identify critical software non-conformances
  • Application of technical expertise including complete understanding of software assurance fundamental engineering principles, practices, and theories
  • Ability to understand and work with multiple enterprise-wide systems and software problem tracking tools (e.g. DOORs, Jira, Confluence, BitBucket, TRAC, etc.)
  • Experience with ISO and AS9100 standards requirements
  • Advanced experience in applying waterfall, spiral, and Agile life cycles
  • Knowledge of Root Cause and Corrective Action tools, such as Ishikawa, FMEA, DOE, KTA (Kepner Tregoe Analysis), 5Why, etc.
  • Have a quality mindset (able to spot strengths and deficiencies in process and products) as well as a systems mindset (able to see the big picture and solve problems)
  • Must have U.S. Citizenship with a current or active Top Secret/SCI level clearance
